At the recent NextGen Digital Business Summit, Diarmuid talked about Beyoncé and Burger King (You’ll have to read the post). He also highlighted the critical importance of digital accessibility. With the European Accessibility Act coming into force in 2025, businesses must ensure their websites are inclusive and accessible to all, including individuals with disabilities. This blog post explores how accessibility benefits both users and businesses, improving communication, SEO, and audience reach, we've said it before, don’t make the same mistakes as Beyoncé. https://lnkd.in/eTYwxu2M

We were delighted to recently partner with the Royal Irish Academy – Ireland's premier learned society – to reimagine its online presence. We created a user-friendly platform that reflects its prestigious heritage and extensive resources. Their new website is easier to navigate, more accessible, and features dynamic content like the interactive Irish Historic Towns Atlas. Now you can seamlessly explore their research, publications, and historical data. We've also made some key improvements to the search function, so you can quickly and easily find exactly what you're looking for. Great work Declan Behan and Karen Connolly Heery 👏. We are looking forward to working with the team as they look to evolve the website further over the next few years. We recently spoke at the Rediscovery Centre about designing energy-efficient websites. With tech predicted to use 20% of global electricity by 2025, it’s time to rethink web design. • Simplify content • Use green hosting • Optimise media • (read the post to see the other stuff) We can create sites that are better for the climate and users. Check out the blog to see how we cut the Rediscovery Centre’s website emissions by 80%! 🌍💻 https://lnkd.in/e2sGDERy #EcoFriendlyWebDesign #SustainableTech #WebDesignTips #RediscoveryCentre #LessIsMore

“Make your website fully accessible in just a few lines of code!” Sounds too good to be true? It is. Accessibility plugins do not work. Don't fall for surface-level fixes. #DigitalAccessibility #UX #WebDevelopment Read more about why we think this here: https://lnkd.in/emYTnzcE

At the Digital Summit 2024 in Croke Park, Diarmuid delivered a presentation on the essential role of accessibility in design. At New Graphic, we believe accessibility is not an afterthought; it's a fundamental part of the design process. In brief, it enhances your design, broadens your audience, improves SEO, and will become a legal requirement by 2025. Check out Declan Behan's journal post on ‘Navigating the Web: The Imperative of Digital Accessibility’ below:https://lnkd.in/dUQmYdri #DBISummit24 #DigitalAccessibility

While there may be much hype about AI, we can already see many helpful tools. For example, with ALT text (alternative text that describes an image on a page), AI-generated texts are getting better all the time. We have been trialling various tools. Here's a quick look at Google’s Gemini and Open AI’s Chat GPT, using images from our two fantastic Unesco Heritage sites. The first image is an aerial image of Skellig Michael and the second is a sunrise at Newgrange. So here's what the AIs gave us: Skellig Michael: - Chat GPT “Aerial view of Skellig Michael, featuring the ancient stone beehive huts and monastic site perched on a steep, grassy hillside, with the Atlantic Ocean in the background.” - Gemini “Aerial view of Skellig Michael, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, showing the well-preserved monastic settlement on the steep slopes of the island. The image highlights the beehive-shaped huts, stone walls, and pathways that make up this historic site.” --- Newgrange: - Chat GPT “Sunrise at Brú na Bóinne with a large standing stone in the foreground and the Neolithic passage tomb of Newgrange in the background, under a dramatic cloudy sky.” - Gemini “A large grassy burial mound with a decorated entrance stone in front of it. The sun is setting behind the entrance stone casting a glow across the grass and mound.” ------ Generative AI is going to help website editors hugely. It is not perfect, and AI image descriptions often miss context. They will often need human editing. I believe the new term we will be using will be Co-Intelligence. Makes sense. #AI #Accessibility

On a long drive out West last week to visit the Iniskea Islands, we spotted some of our recent identity work nestled amidst the stunning landscape of the Erris peninsula. Delighted to see the branding used so well in the fabulous exhibition. If you are around that area, @visitsolas.ie is a well worth a visit 🌊 #irishdesign #branding #blacksod #visitbelmullet #erris #mayotourism #mayonorth #wildatlanticway #blacksodlighthouse #belmulletpeninsula4m
