[🔦 Technique Spotlight] Controlled Modulus Columns (CMC) This week, we are focusing on Controlled Modulus Columns (CMC), a technique developed by Menard to overcome problems of lateral confinement in highly compressible and organic soils. This innovative soil stabilization technique is designed to strengthen soft or loose soils, offering exceptional support for infrastructure projects such as airports, roads, or multi-store buildings. It is an economical alternative to traditional deep foundation solutions and can prove beneficial for the global design of the overlying structure. There is no project too big or small for Menard Ireland. The team recently installed CMCs to provide bearing and settlement control for a retaining wall in Clane, Co Kildare in what were difficult site conditions. Using an in-house mix design and compact CMC solution, Menard site team overcame considerable challenges including limited headroom and navigating several underground services.
