🎄✨ Wishing all our customers, partners, suppliers, and friends a very Merry Christmas and a prosperous 2025! ✨🎄 This year, instead of sending physical cards, we've opted for a more sustainable approach aligned with our SDG goals. We've sent e-cards and made a heartfelt donation to one of our favourite charities, Ronald McDonald House Ireland, to help support the amazing work they do for families in need. Thank you for your continued support and collaboration throughout 2024. We've learned, shared, and grown so much together, and we look forward to working with you again in the year ahead. Here’s to a greener, brighter, and successful 2025! 🌍🎁 #MerryChristmas #SDGs #Sustainability #RonaldMcDonaldHouse #ThankYou #IreganAdvisors

  • Our thoughts on the opposition to the Dublin City Transport Plan 👇

The opposition to the Dublin City Transport Plan by certain lobby groups is honestly mystifying, particularly given that restrictions on certain through traffic (the most recent and controversial measures) do not impact private cars with a destination in the city centre. I wrote about it earlier in the year and noted "any representations made by businesses with an interest in maximising private car traffic in the city should be scrutinised with caution". https://lnkd.in/exYuvuAe https://lnkd.in/ej5seJ6n

Dublin City Council acted beyond its powers with traffic changes along quays, group claims

  • A huge thank you to all the attendees, speakers, and partners who joined us for our webinar last Wednesday: A Case Study in Micro Mobility with Wexford County Council and Bolt! Here are some of the key takeaways that resonated with us: 🔑Alan shared his thoughts on how Local Authorities are leading the charge in operationalising Climate Action Plans, and how the importance of choosing the right solutions and partners cannot be understated. He also explained how data plays a critical role in planning, execution, and evaluation. 📊 Key insights from Tom Byrne of Wexford County Council: - Low-cost geofenced parking has proven effective. - Data from scooter trips (e.g., 2.4km average trip length) has informed broader infrastructure planning. - For events like Fleadh Cheoil na hÉireann, the Council was able to quickly adapt parking zones and speed limits to meet local needs, highlighting the flexibility needed of micro mobility solutions. - Collaboration with local Gardaí has enhanced the scheme’s success. 🚀 Insights from Aisling at Bolt: - Micro mobility enables last-mile connections, replacing car trips while creating opportunities to rethink space (e.g., replacing one parking space with 10 scooters/bikes). - Educating users on proper usage and parking is key at launch. - Partnerships with local businesses for maintenance have supported both the scheme and the local economy. - Data-driven adaptability to manage special events ensures smoother operations. Overall, the session highlighted how micro mobility can integrate with existing public transport systems, replace car trips, and support broader climate action goals. Watch out for the recording when it goes up on our YouTube channel next week. 💡 We’re excited to continue these conversations and help Local Authorities find and implement sustainable transport solutions. Have feedback for our 2025 webinar series or topics you’d like covered? Drop us a message – we’d love to hear your thoughts! #MicroMobility #SustainableTransport #ClimateAction #LocalAuthorities #MobilitySolutions #IreganAdvisors #Bolt #WexfordCountyCouncil

🌍 Reading Recommendation 🚗   For those of us with an interest in sustainable transport and mobility, there are few more thought-provoking or influential texts than "The High Cost of Free Parking" by Donald Shoup.   Originally published in 2005, and still hugely relevant today, Shoup's book challenges the traditional ways we think about parking, and the true costs that "free" parking imposes on cities, economies, and the environment. My clients know that I talk about it all the time and here are some reasons why:   1️⃣ Parking is Never "Free" Shoup correctly points out that, while parking is often offered at no direct cost to the motorist, it incurs substantial hidden costs for cities and taxpayers. Every "free" parking space is ultimately paid for through increased housing or construction costs, higher goods prices, and issues like traffic congestion. Free parking is therefore a critical consideration for cities and towns that are aiming to reduce their environmental impact.   2️⃣ Market-based Pricing is Key to Improving Efficiency Shoup advocates for market-based pricing for parking. International best practice has shown that, when cities charge for parking based on demand, turnover is encouraged, congestion is reduced, and spaces are more readily available. This simple shift can help support more efficient use of urban spaces and reduce the need for excessive allocations of parking spaces.   3️⃣ Reducing Parking Requirements Helps Create Sustainable Cities Many cities and towns have minimum parking requirements for new developments, which is a key contributor in the oversupply of parking and underuse of sustainable transport options. By reducing or eliminating minimum parking requirements, cities and towns can free up land for sustainable transport modes, green spaces, affordable housing, and public realm improvements.   At Iregan Advisors, we work closely with Local Authorities to develop and implement Climate Action Plans that include best practices in sustainable mobility and parking management. We’re inspired by thought leaders like Donald Shoup to help Irish cities and towns create greener and more efficient urban environments.   #SustainableMobility #UrbanPlanning #ParkingManagement #ClimateAction #IreganAdvisors

Delighted for our friends Nevo who put on an outstanding Electric Vehicle Show yesterday at the RDS! There was an incredible energy in the room, and an exciting mix of individuals and organisations exploring how to turn climate action plans into tangible, on-the-ground solutions. A huge congratulations to Derek, Neil, Simon, Liam and the wider Nevo and Drive Inc family. From vehicle manufacturers displaying both personal and commercial EVs (The Buggyman final-mile solution was a standout!) to innovative EV charging solutions for homes, and data analysis tools supporting infrastructure rollout (shoutout to Geotab for their cutting-edge offerings), the event showcased the momentum building in the EV space. It was also really valuable to hear from Aoife OGrady about the strategic work being done by ZEVI in accelerating EV infrastructure development across the country, with Local Authorities, commercial operations, communities, UD guidelines, vehicle-to-grid technology, shared charging schemes, and use of data analytics, all part of the plan. Events like this highlight the collaboration and forward-thinking needed to make Sustainable Transport a success. Well done to everybody involved 👏🏻👏🏻 #ElectricVehicles #Sustainability #ClimateAction #EVInfrastructure #IreganAdvisors
