A Sign Café is up and running in Tipperary. Designed to support the deaf community and those learning Irish Sign Language (ISL) locally, it is a resource that organisers and participants hope will help in the promotion of ISL. The Café is headed up by the HSE Tipperary Gold Star Disability Awareness in the Community Programme. Funded by the Adult Literacy for Life (ALL) scheme, it is administered by SOLAS in partnership with Tipperary Library Services. Speaking at the Sign Café, Anne Bradshaw, HSE Disability Services Officer, Tipperary, said that “Deaf people can often be excluded from general participation in community events and this project is bringing about changes and raising deaf awareness.” Learn more about the café: https://bit.ly/4a0eYPf #OurHealthService #IrishSignLanguage #Deafness #SignCafe #DeafCommunity #Tipperary #DisabilityInclusion

“The main thing I love about being a Health Care Assistant (HCA) is the connection I have with the patients,” says Elaine Clifford, who is a HCA in St James's Hospital Dublin. Elaine has worked as a HCA for almost 28 years, reflecting that: “it means so much just knowing that during a very difficult time in their lives that you have made a difference and hopefully made things a little bit easier for them during their stay.” Acknowledging the great work done by Elaine and the many other Health Care Assistants across the country, Anne Marie Hoey, our Chief People Officer, notes that “Health Care Assistants working in our Acute Hospital Services are an integral part of the multidisciplinary team providing care of the highest quality, whilst showing respect, kindness, consideration and empathy in their communication and interaction with their patients”.
