We were delighted to officially launch these plans at our head office in Letterkenny recently. Young People Create New Community Orchards to Promote Mental Health and Well-Being Last week, two vibrant new community orchards were planted as part of the innovative ‘Mind Your Melon’ youth mental health project! The orchards, located at the St Vincent de Paul Centre and the new community garden in Rathmullan, and with Lárchomhairle Paróiste Ghleanncholmcille in Glencolmcille, are the latest additions to a growing network of community orchards planted over the last three years. This exciting project was made possible by the hard work and enthusiasm of Transition Year (TY) students, with invaluable support from local community and voluntary organisations, and collaboration with OURganic Gardens. Together, they explored the benefits of connecting with others and staying active in nature, highlighting the essential link between mental health and well-being. Incorporating positive mental health practices during adolescence is key to building resilience and fostering healthy adults. Mind Your Melon, created by Connect Mental Health in partnership with Jigsaw Donegal and Foróige Donegal, aims to raise awareness and inspire action for youth mental health across local communities. A key highlight was the presentation by Donegal County Council’s Climate Action Team, which provided a valuable overview of the Decarbonisation Zone of Falcarragh and Gortahork, sparking great interest and discussion among attendees. This role supports individuals displaced from Ukraine (Beneficiaries of Temporary Protection) and other International Protection Applicants to enhance their health and wellbeing and foster integration into the local community. 𝗞𝗲𝘆 𝗥𝗲𝘀𝗽𝗼𝗻𝘀𝗶𝗯𝗶𝗹𝗶𝘁𝗶𝗲𝘀: Empower and support individuals and groups to build capacity for improved health, wellbeing, and community integration. Provide advice, guidance, and development support through one-to-one or group meetings. 𝗥𝗲𝗾𝘂𝗶𝗿𝗲𝗺𝗲𝗻𝘁𝘀: A relevant third-level qualification in health promotion (e.g., mental health, substance misuse) or a related area and 1 year of experience in community/health programme delivery; OR 2 years of relevant experience in a community/health project supporting health behaviour changes. Yesterday, we bid a fond farewell to Margaret Duncan, who is retiring from the Rural Social Scheme after an incredible seven years of dedicated service. Margaret has been an integral part of the NCBI Donegal Town team, working as a Retail Assistant and bringing her kindness and professionalism to every customer and colleague she encountered.
