With the big day almost here, we’ve got some top tips for keeping dogs safe and happy this Christmas 🎅🐾 🍫🥧 Keep human treats (especially those containing chocolate or raisins like mince pies or Christmas pudding/cake) well out of reach of hungry hounds! 🎄 Also make sure curious canines are kept well away from holly berries or mistletoe, as these are also poisonous to them ☃ If it snows, keep your dog on lead, as they can get disorientated and lost in the excitement of snow 🎁 Keep presents away from pups, the wrapping paper can be just a bit too tempting not to tear open 🐶 Make sure your dog always has a quiet place to chill out, away from all the Christmas chaos if they need it For more Christmas tips, go to our website: https://lnkd.in/eavHGQvX

Christmas came early for the Grinch litter who have found their forever homes ❤💚 However, it wasn’t such an easy start for Cindy Lou, Martha May, Betty Lou and Dr. Seuss. The four adorable Dachshund cross pups were found in a cardboard box on the side of the road at just 8-weeks-old. The person who found them brought them straight to us where we were able to give them a vet exam and get them into a warm cosy kennel. Thankfully the puppies were in good health, but as they weren’t microchipped we have no way of tracing their original owner and therefore no idea why someone would abandon defenceless puppies like this. Peaches was one of six puppies born in Dogs Trust after their mum Dora was rescued from a puppy farm. Dora was heavily pregnant when she arrived and gave birth to Peaches and her five siblings just days after her rescue. Sadly, only three of the puppies made it, despite our team’s best efforts 💔 As sad a start to life as this was for little Peaches, we’re glad that she was born in our care and not a puppy farm. You see, puppy farmers care little for the welfare of the puppies they breed, solely focusing on the profit they can make. Puppy farm pups don’t receive any socialisation in their first few weeks, which is vital for their development. The pups are also often kept in poor conditions, and can become seriously or even fatally ill even after they go to their new families. We’re so glad Peaches was born in our care where she only knew love from day one, and now she is thriving in her forever home. Making sure dogs like Dora and puppies like Peaches never suffer like this is just one of the things a Junior Minister for Animal Welfare could help with.
