We're excited to announce that we have signed a 0.8mln euros project with the #EstonianTransportationAdministration to assess their three bridges with GScan’s #muonFLUX solution that combines #muonTomography and #AI. We will start our measurements early next year. ✍ ✍ ✍ The primary goal of scanning these lively bridges is to assess their internal condition. Estonia, like other developed countries, has an aging infrastructure -- the average age of bridge is 40 years and it is increasing. Society urgently needs a more accurate and automatic assessment technology! 🔬 🔭 📡 Why does the project matter? 👉 Cost-effective Solutions: Reduce 2-4 times unnecessary demolition and construction costs. 👉 Enhanced Safety: Ensure the long-term safety and reliability of critical infrastructure. 👉 Environmental Impact: Minimise carbon footprint by safely extending bridge lifespans. We thank the team of the Estonian Transportation Administration for their excellent work to push the innovation, especially Taivo Kurg. #MuonMondays: Insights from the latest ‘Shaping Tomorrow’s Workforce’ survey indicates that #AI in the workplace has already become a ‘driving force behind enhanced productivity and efficiency': 🔵 70% of employees experience the influence of AI 🔵 38% report increased efficiency 🔵 33% see enhanced productivity 🔵 28% experienced reduced costs Challenges: ◽ Only 46% feel comfortable using AI technologies ◽ Concerns about AI stealing jobs persists ◽ 41% agree that there has been more discussion about how to implement AI and new technologies in their workplace rather than actual change. Proactive companies are adapting: 🔷 72% provide AI training resources 🔷 66% recognize the need to adapt to AI technologies Looking forward, 84% anticipate that AI's role will continue to grow, making it a crucial component in the future of work. But how can the infrastructure sector unlock the potential value of AI? By embracing new technologies such as muon tomography and AI and other uses of AI, asset lifecycle management will be transformed. Martin SFP Bryant highlighted GScan today in the #deeptech newsletter PreSeed Now in an interview with our CEO Marek Helm. Here's a snippet: ------------ Concrete is an attractive material for startups, whether they’re finding new ways to make it, or new ways to fix it. But today’s startup wants to look INSIDE concrete, and other materials, in a brand new way... The company has developed scanners to trace every muon’s trajectory as it passes through an object, via a technique called #muontomography. “As a muon goes through a bridge, it hits cement, it hits metal, it hits corrosion, and then it goes through the bridge. And we can create the 3D image of exactly what was there in the bridge, how much metal is still there to keep the bridge together, or what is the level of corrosion,” says Helm. After the scanner hardware has tracked the muons’ movement through a structure, GScan’s software then uses this data alongside AI and machine learning to figure out what is going on inside. “You don’t need to operate the scanner. AI and machine learning can automatically detect the chemical composition inside an object. We are providing exact, AI-based data to the civil engineers so they can act properly in terms of infrastructure maintenance,” Helm adds. Helm says GScan’s tech can map out the insides of many types of structure. Last night GScan was nominated for two awards at the New Civil Engineer #TechFest2024 awards, and won Best Use of Technology: #AI, beating out 9 other nominees including some of the biggest companies in infrastructure! While we are proud of the recognition, what really shone through for us was the excitement and interest of the judges, nominees, and attendees who wanted to learn more about GScan and our technology, including Arcadis, Arup, AtkinsRéalis , Heathrow and Mott MacDonald and many more we will follow up with. #MuonMondays: Muon tomography can be used to create images of the inside of concrete structures such as bridges, dams, and buildings. But, what are we looking for? Rebar, ducts and strands are all components of post-tensioning, a technique used to strengthen concrete structures. By mapping these hidden components and identifying indicators of deterioration including corrosion, cracks, voids, and chloride ingress, we have a detailed picture of structural health over time. This visibility enables targeted, timely maintenance, extending the life of these structures, as well as providing warning when significant internal deterioration has occurred. #muontomography #AI #NDT #infrastructure

#MuonMondays: This month, #COP29 convenes in Baku, Azerbaijan. As world leaders from 197 countries are meeting to negotiate the best ways to address #climatechange, it is fitting to consider how innovation in the built environment can reduce emissions. New #construction represents 38% of global CO2 emissions. #Retrofitting existing infrastructure can reduce #carbon #emissions by 50-75% compared to new construction. This includes savings from both operational energy use and the embodied carbon in building materials. Efficient management of physical assets therefore plays a significant role in reducing carbon emissions, including: ❇️ Extending asset lifecycles ❇️ Improving operational efficiency ❇️ Resource optimisation ❇️ Informing sustainable decision making The management of the built world is therefore becoming increasingly important. Non-destructive, data-rich testing such as #muontomography can make a pivotal contribution by enabling stakeholders to make informed decisions about how to optimise reconstruction effort, capital expenditure, and environmental impact. We have projected along with the help of outside experts that by 2035, the Emission Reduction Potential of GScan products with be ~105 million tonnes CO2 (i.e. 1.95% of the built environment for bridges, buildings and dams). By maintaining and upgrading existing bridges and buildings instead of decommissioning them, can avoid the emissions associated with producing and transporting new construction materials, which can save thousands of tonnes of CO2 per asset and help our environment.
