The Department of Health – Abu Dhabi has been recognised with the prestigious "Startup Ecosystem Stars 2024" international award for its leadership in healthcare innovation and support for startups. Presented in Paris during the second edition of the awards ceremony, this recognition celebrates Abu Dhabi’s pioneering role in healthcare transformation and life sciences, with achievements including support for 80 healthcare startups and the creation of 926 specialised jobs. The Department’s key initiatives, such as "HealthX" and the Academic Healthcare Innovation Challenge, continue to drive impactful solutions and accelerate innovation in the sector.

Dr. Asma Al Mannaei, Executive Director of the Health Life Sciences Sector at the Department of Health – Abu Dhabi, and H.E. Faisal Alhmoudi, Executive Director of the Social Investment Fund at the Authority of Social Contribution – Ma'an, emphasise the critical role of research funding in advancing healthcare innovation, highlighting how collaborative efforts empower innovators to create transformative solutions that enhance patient outcomes and solidify Abu Dhabi’s position as a global leader in healthcare innovation.

The Healthcare Research and Innovation Summit, organised by the Department of Health – Abu Dhabi, featured remarkable moments, including groundbreaking research achievements and pioneering innovative projects, alongside hosting fruitful panel discussions and presentations. This summit underscores the strong strategic partnership between the DoH and its partners, uniting efforts toward the shared goals of enhancing the health and well-being of community members, and reinforcing the Emirate's position as a global hub for life sciences.

In a pioneering step towards advancing medical innovation, the Department of Health – Abu Dhabi, in collaboration with with The Authority of Social Contribution - Ma'an , has awarded over AED 19 million through the Healthcare Research and Innovation Fund to support gene therapies, precision medicine, and cancer advanced treatments among other vital fields. The grant winners were announced at the Healthcare Research and Innovation Summit, which brought together 200 global experts to promote collaboration and tackle global healthcare challenges.

Aiming to transform the healthcare model in the Emirate towards comprehensive and preventive health, the Department of Health – Abu Dhabi, in collaboration with its strategic partners, successfully provided personalised treatment plans to 256 cancer patients in Abu Dhabi since the launch of its pioneering precision medicine programme for oncology in October 2022.
