How to sell your old devices to your employees:

Profil von Jonas Baum anzeigen, Grafik

    👀

Let your people buy their old work computers people hate loosing things. It’s in our psychology. Maybe that’s why so many people want to keep their devices when they leave a company. I think you should help them do it. There are a couple of insecurities about that topic. Let’s clear them up: 🤑 The finance side: In Germany 🇩🇪 you depreciate any hard- or software within 12 months. Afterwards you can sell it for 1€ to anybody. This varies from country to country. Let me know in the comments and I’ll research the rules for your country for free. You can also sell it for a residual value you can research online. I suggest you don’t. Make this an employee perk for 1€. 👩⚖️ The legal side: You need to sign an official purchase contract. Even if you sell the device for 1€. By law you have to offer a warranty period. By default that’s 24 months. You can limit this period to 12 month in the contract. Would you be interested in a contract template? The warranty period is the #1 reason most companies don’t sell devices to their people. There are companies that act as middlemen and buy the devices from you in order to sell them to your people. Would you be interested in such a service? 😏 🔒 The security side: Make sure the device is properly wiped so no sensitive data is leaked. If the hard drive is encrypted a single wipe is more than enough. You can do this with WAY in seconds 😎 👨🔧 The operational side: Selling old devices has a great advantage: - Your pile of old, unused computers is MUCH smaller. - Less thinking if devices are still suitable. - Less organizing storage room. 🧑🤝🧑 The people side Letting your people buy the device they have been using their entire time at your company gives your offboardings a positive connotation. People will remember! Use it as a cool perk not only during offboardings but also when devices are renewed. Drop me a comment in case you have any additional questions. Hope this helps Jonas

Jonas explains, why we finally need a Hubspot for our IT

Profil von Jonas Baum anzeigen, Grafik

    👀

Why we need a Hubspot for IT Hands down: On a superficial level many of the things we do at WAY have existed before. For leasing devices there is Grenke. For remotely managing devices there is Intune. For managing access to software there is Octa. All of these tools have 1 thing in common: They are built for large enterprise customers. They offer a huge variety of customizable features for professional administrators. Small and middle sized companies are afraid of these huge tools. 😖 Afraid of buying something which will slow them down. 😑 Afraid of a long implementation process. 🥴 Afraid of high cost. 😳 Afraid of not being to run it autonomously I call this the Salesforce paradox. Everybody knows salesforce (currently) is the best CRM. Yet veeery few SMEs / Startups will hire them. Because of the above reasons. A very smart advisor once told me: “Hire software for now. Not for later.” A tool that is very good at “for now” is Hubspot. But they are also good for later. Just that you don’t need to hire the “for later” part now. But you know it’s there for when you need it. Hubspot allows you to start for free with features everybody needs. It doesn’t force you to pay for the full blown suite right from the beginning. Whenever you need it, Hubspot will offer you an upgrade. Don’t get me wrong. Hubspot has many flaws. But it’s very, very good at accompanying you while you grow. It’s even the claim on their Website: “grow better with Hubspot”. We believe IT software should be more like Hubspot. Giving you exactly what you need. When you need it. Without slowing you down. Always there, right before a pain starts to truly hurt.

Do Macs need anti virus software?

Profil von Jonas Baum anzeigen, Grafik

    👀

Do I need antivirus software on my Macs? Everybody thinks that Mac devices don't need antivirus. That’s only partially true - 💡 The biggest reason why Macs are considered safer than Windows devices is simple: Hackers attack them less because there are less Macs than Windows computers. However: Macs also come a little better prepared. Here’s a short breakdown for involuntary IT managers: 🛡️ Macs come with XProtect and Gatekeeper: XProtect scans apps for malware when installed, effectively catching known threats. Gatekeeper ensures only apps from trusted sources (App Store or certified developers) can be opened, guarding against unverified software. Both are great for blocking many forms of malware, they're less good at detecting the latest, most sophisticated attacks or anything that hasn't yet been identified in the common virus / malware databases. Therefore: Some reasons why adding specialized anti-virus software is a good idea: 🔒 Sensitive Data If your Mac handles sensitive info, better be safe than sorry. Bolstering your Macs defenses can prevent bad data breaches. 🚀 No more drop in performance Modern antivirus solutions for Macs don’t eat up performance as they used to. 🪲 Protection beyond Malware Many antivirus tools offer additional protections (like phishing safeguards) that is not included in a Mac’s basic protection In summary: While Macs come equipped with good security features, modern cyber threats justify an additional antivirus layer. 👋 At WAY we partnered up with Malwarebytes for additional protection. As a user of our premium package you can install it on all your computers with a single click. Hope this helps, Jonas

Why Chromebooks probably aren't for you. If you're based in the EU:

Profil von Jonas Baum anzeigen, Grafik

    👀

Ever considered Chromebooks? Probably you shouldn't. (If you're based in the EU) ❤️ I love the idea: Lightweight cheap computers for office workers with all content stored in the cloud. No huge expense for equipment. Nothing on a local hard drive. So nothing gets lost or stolen. But as always: Practice beats theory. Especially with Chromebooks: 🫠 No Office applications Chromebooks don't allow installing Word, Powerpoint, Outlook etc. Europe is Windowsländ. So surely someone in your company will need to work with MS Office. They'll only be able to use the limited features of browser based MS 365. ❌ Vendors don't restock: Due to very low EU-Chromebook demand device shops only carry small batches which often aren't restocked. The model you bought yesterday often won't be in stock tomorrow. Nor restocked. Companies using CBs thus often have a highly heterogenous fleet from different vendors. That creates oooooverrrrheaaad. 😬 GDPR Chromebooks will transfer all data to the US. If that's a problem. Don't do Chromebooks. 🤮 Devs don't do Chromebooks Running local versions of software is close to impossible + Most Chromebooks you can get in the EU don't bring enough performance. Wanna hear my recommendation for the best stack for most companies? Put 🙋♀️ in the comments and I'll slide into your DMs =). Hope this helps Jonas

How to delete users in Google Workspace the right way without spamming your Drive with every intern's data because you are afraid of loosing "important documents"...

Profil von Jonas Baum anzeigen, Grafik

    👀

You know nothing Jonas Baum... ...about how to delete users on Google Workspace without flooding your drive with unnecessary backups because you are afraid to loose important files... said our IT-Engineer Thomas. Here are Thomas' 3 hacks how to archive data in Google Workspace the right way: Hack 1️⃣ Create an archive user in Google Workspace / Dropbox for every year. (2024, 2025 ...). When offboarding an employee and deleting the account, transfer all the data to the respective archive user. Usually if you require certain files from a former employee you will know what to look for. So no need to worry about the aggregation of multiple employees’ files. Hack 2️⃣ Decide for a data retention policy. How long shall the data be stored? After e.g. 2 years delete the 2022 archive user. Hack 3️⃣ Create a catch-all email group. So all e-mails sent to the former colleague won’t get lost. Especially invoices for SaaS accounts he/she created - So you can turn them off. Of course you can do all those things on your own. Or have WAY.so do it for you 🤩 Hope this helps Jonas

Learnings from building our pre-seed pitch deck

Profil von Jonas Baum anzeigen, Grafik

    👀

How to build a pitch deck that raises $$$ in 2024 There are trillions of blog articles and templates about which slides to include for a perfect pitch deck. There must be a problem, solution, product, traction, TAM/SOM/SAM, business model, and a team slide. I always found these articles were missing the point. A great deck isn’t necessarily about including all these slides but about telling a great story. A pre-seed pitch deck is nothing but a sales deck. It’s about showcasing the best of you. I want to share my learnings with you hoping that they’ll help you build a better deck yourself: 🔁 Practice your pitch Fundraising is sales. Don’t start before you have built a large (100+ investors) pipeline. Start talking to investors you don’t mind losing. Note the questions they’ll ask and use them to improve your pitch. 🤼♀️ Answer the usual questions up front Usually, a first meeting lasts 30 minutes. There is little time for actual conversation and discussion. With the learning from my first meetings, I recorded a video on top of the deck, answering all the questions I knew investors would ask. This helped a lot in getting the most out of every meeting because most questions were already answered. 2️⃣ Start your deck with your two-sentence description Simplicity is everything. An investor will probably skim through your deck on her phone at 11 PM while watching Netflix. Make it stupidly easy. Add a two-sentence description of what your business does on the first page. Use words your grandma would understand. It has to be that easy! 📣 Your headlines have to tell the whole story Before filling all slides with content, I formulated the headlines for each slide. An investor has to understand your pitch just by reading the headlines. 👨💻 Only include slides that support your story. Use the common pitch deck (problem, solution...) structure to make it easy for an investor, but if a slide breaks your story, put it in the annex. Story flow is much more important than completion! 📈 Don’t get crazy about the market slide Good investors know market slides are BS. If you have identified a real problem, investors will feel it in their guts that it’s big. (Maybe calculate your initial target market by multiplying your ACV with a realistically obtainable amount of customers.) ❌ Don’t include everything - Just what makes you look good Pitch decks are sales decks. Don’t include every feature. Only the best ones. Show only the numbers that make you look best in your traction slide. No need to be overly "realistic". Investors know that all companies try to look their best in their deck.
