reaching for the stars since 1962.

Info

WARR is short for "Wissenschaftliche Arbeitsgemeinschaft für Raketentechnik und Raumfahrt", which translates to "Scientific Workgroup for Rocketry and Spaceflight". We are a student organization at TU Munich, Germany and are specializing in everything space. In particular, we are working on rockets, satellites, rovers, space elevators, and microgravity experiments. We are a non-profit student group based at the Technical University Munich, working on ambitious projects around the theme of space. With over 400 actively working student members, WARR is the biggest group of its kind in all of Germany. We're currently working within five subgroups: WARR rocketry (hybrid and solid rockets), WARR move (satellites), WARR space robotics (rover concepts, drones and space elevators) and WARR space labs (biological microgravity experiments). Originally, WARR was established in 1962 to compensate for the university's lack of space-focused institutes. Our primary goal is to provide opportunities for hands-on project experience in the aerospace sector, complimentary to the more theoretical education a university can offer.

A Heartfelt Thank You to the TUM - Chair of Carbon Composites (LCC) at Technische Universität München! Without the help of the TUM Chair of Carbon Composites, both in expertise and resources, our WARR Rocketry team would not have been able to build and launch the Nixus Rocket EX-4B. Our success in launching Europe’s first student-built bi-liquid rocket and receiving three awards at the EuRoC 2024 competition is largely due to support like this. Additionally, we built the EX-1E from project WESP at the LCC as well. We launched and recovered this rocket successfully at the Spaceport America Cup 2024 in New Mexico, USA this June. The EX-4B’s and the EX-1E's structure is predominantly composed of carbon and glass fiber reinforced polymers, manufactured in various ways such as lamination, SMC (sheet molding compression), and filament winding. For structural simulations of all our CFRP components, we have greatly benefited from the expertise of the chair, especially in the design and manufacturing of filament-wound components. Filament winding itself is a major advantage for WARR Rocketry, as we are able to use the chair’s own 5-axis CNC winding machine to manufacture our lightweight, load-bearing CFRP structure. Using similar processes, we have also started developing Type 5 pressure vessels made from pre-impregnated carbon fiber wound on dissolving salt cores. The LCC’s testing laboratories have further supported us, allowing us to verify components such as our hold-down mechanism. Thank you, LCC, for always supporting us in so many ways. To further cooperation between the Chair of Carbon Composites and WARR. Special thanks to Swen Zaremba, Kalle Kind, Youssef Mraidi, Gabriel Rojas Diaz and Rainer Rauch!

Space nerds at MT Aerospace AG 🚀👨🚀🪐 - we inspire young people. The scientific working group for rocket technology and space travel at the Technical University of Munich (WARR) visited us as part of their studies. After a brief introduction to MT Aerospace, the exciting part began in our factory halls. The aerospace enthusiasts were very interested in our #CFRP area and additive manufacturing. The intensive exchange with our colleague Peter Ortmann was therefore certainly a highlight of the visit, as the students had many technical questions. Our expertise and developments for reusable rocket components point the way to the future of space travel 🚀🚀 and we were delighted to share our know-how with the young people, because they are the #future of our space travel. #rocketscience #space #spaceEnablers #students #lightweight #MTAdditive

We are very excited to announce that we have been shortlisted for ESA´s Fly Your Satellite Design Booster Second Edition program! After a full year of work, countless hours and sleepless nights, we are moving forward to the next step towards putting MOVE-III into space. To suit the mission better, the satellite was redesigned from the ground up as a 3U system, without any functional sacrifices. The goal now is to revise and improve the submission based on the learnings and progress at both the training week and back at the lab. Thank you to European Space Agency - ESA and everyone who has put us through this with their hard work and dedication! See you at the end of November with the updated version.
