  • Attention is one of your most valuable resources.. ⚠️ In the 1980s, visionary computer scientist Mark Weiser envisioned a future in which technology would seamlessly permeate our world. He foresaw that as computers proliferated, the demand for human attention would skyrocket. 🖥️ In today's world, with our smartphones vying for our attention, we are challenged every day to allocate this limited resource. Always remember that technology should empower you, not steal your time or make you dependent. So choose wisely what you engage with - let technology serve you, not distract you! 💡

    • Illustration of a smartphone emitting signal waves, emphasizing the theme of distraction. Overlaid is a quote by Mark Weiser: 'The scarce resource in the 21st century will not be technology; it will be attention.' The words 'scarce,' '21st century,' and 'attention' are highlighted in pink to underscore their importance. To the right of the smartphone, an arrow and handwritten text read 'LOOK AT ME!' symbolizing the fight for attention in the digital age. Below the quote is the logo for START Hamburg.
  • You Are NOT the User.. 🫵 As Jakob Nielsen has been preaching since 1993, this is one of the most important lessons for startups to learn from the UX movement. When developing a business idea, you can never derive from your own needs to the needs of your customers. So don't just project your own or imagined problems onto your potential users. Instead, start by getting to know them. Empathize with them. Understand their pain points. Use techniques such as contextual inquiry to observe their real problems.

    • Illustration with the title "You Are NOT the User" showing a person holding a smartphone. The text highlights key points from Jakob Nielsen's "Usability Engineering" principles:
"Designers Are Not Users."
"Users Are Not Designers."
"Vice Presidents Are Not Users."
These quotes emphasize the importance of understanding that different roles—designers, users, and executives—have different perspectives, and it’s crucial not to assume one’s own needs represent those of the user. The image is branded with "START Hamburg" at the bottom.

Your impact starts with the tools you choose.. 🛠️ Marshall McLuhan, a pioneering media theorist of the 20th century, argued that tools aren't just technological artifacts - they become extensions of ourselves, shaping and amplifying our potential. In today's fast-paced world, continually adapting the tools we use is crucial. While it can be challenging to learn new technologies, it's the only way to ensure we stay relevant and continue making an impact in an ever-evolving landscape. 🌍

    • A minimalist graphic featuring an old, boxy computer monitor with handwritten text next to it saying 'AI as THE tool of the future?' Below the graphic is a quote from Marshall McLuhan: 'Our Age of Anxiety is, in great part, the result of trying to do today’s job with yesterday’s tools and yesterday’s concepts.' Key phrases like 'Age of Anxiety,' 'today’s job,' and 'yesterday’s tools' are highlighted in pink, emphasizing the contrast between outdated tools and modern challenges. Brick walls are not there to keep us out.. 🧱 In The Last Lecture, Randy Pausch shares his inspiring journey of pursuing childhood dreams, facing countless obstacles along the way. Instead of deterring him, these challenges became opportunities to demonstrate his determination and drive. This mindset is particularly relevant in the startup world, where daily hurdles are a given. Obstacles aren't meant to stop us—they're meant to test how much we truly want to succeed. The key is not to back down but to push forward with resilience and purpose. 💡

    • The image shows a simple illustration of a brick wall with a small shrub growing from the bottom. An arrow points to the wall, labeled "obstacles in life." Below the illustration is a quote from Randy Pausch's book The Last Lecture:

"The brick walls are there for a reason. The brick walls are not there to keep us out. The brick walls are there to give us a chance to show how badly we want something."

The quote is partially highlighted, emphasizing the words "brick walls," "not," "chance," and "badly we want something."
