SAM-DIMENSION is a young and innovative precision farming start-up. We develop intelligent computer vision techniques and combine them with data science to enable effective field surveys. SAM-DIMENSION offers a complete solution for full-area aerial surveys of fields from mapping to the application to prevent yield loss due to weeds in conventional, hybrid and organic farming. SAM-DIMENSION helps forward-thinking farmers to reduce their crop protection costs while increasing their productivity. By using the SAM-DIMENSION maps, the amount of pesticides applied is reduced by up to 90%. In addition to the ecological benefits, the customer achieves a cost saving of 40 %. SAM-DIMENSION started its product development in 2019 and is already working intensively with farmers and companies from Germany and the Czech Republic on the market launch of the drone weed detection at the cotyledon stage. The company is led by a founding team with extensive experience in agriculture and sensor-technology.

Fundamental knowledge or advanced insights? 🤔 What’s really behind Spot-Spray and Patch-Spray technologies? And how does nozzle spacing affect it? 💧 In modern agriculture, precision is key—not only for reducing environmental impact but also for optimizing yields. Spot-Spray technology targets individual weeds with pinpoint accuracy, applying herbicide only where it’s truly needed. This differs from traditional blanket spraying, where entire fields receive uniform coverage, often leading to unnecessary chemical usage. Patch-Spray, on the other hand, focuses on larger sections, targeting denser patches of weeds rather than every single plant, which is useful in areas with clustered weed growth and possible with older machinery. Narrower nozzle spacing enhances precision, helping to avoid waste and improve targeted spraying. But the question remains: is it always worth investing in such fine control with narrower sections? With both Spot- and Patch-Spray, farmers can tailor their approach to suit their specific needs, balancing efficiency with environmental responsibility.
