OCCAR Signs Night Vision Goggles Contract Amendment No. 5 Bonn/Germany, 20 December 2024 -OCCAR (Organisation for Joint Armament Co-operation)-EA has awarded a contract amendment on behalf of #Belgium and #Germany for the procurement of additional Night Vision Goggles to the Consortium HENSOLDT Optronics GmbH and THEON INTERNATIONAL Sensors S.A. The contract amendment was signed by the Director of OCCAR-EA, Joachim Sucker, and industry representatives on 20 December 2024 at the OCCAR (Organisation for Joint Armament Co-operation) premises in #Bonn. The Night Vision Goggles Contract Amendment No. 5 includes additional 25,000 MIKRO Night Vision Goggle Sets for Germany. More than 30,000 MIKRON Night Vision Goggle Sets have been delivered to Belgium and Germany since 2021, alongside with accessories and In-Service Support. Representatives of Germany and the Director of OCCAR-EA highlighted the continued success of this cooperative procurement programme which is one of the largest Night Vision Goggles procurement programmes in Europe and the continued increase of the Belgian and German night vision capabilities. The German representative highlighted and emphasised the unique ability of OCCAR-EA to successfully execute urgent requirements in cooperative defense projects, and expressed appreciation for the flexibility and entrepreneurship that was needed to activate the option on short notice. She also highlighted the ability of the industrial partners to deliver the first substantial batch of this additional procurement before the end of 2024. The #Belgian-#German Night Vision Capability Programme of OCCAR procures and manages night vision equipment for dismounted forces and drivers of military vehicles, resulting in an increase of interoperability and a decrease of logistic footprint in operational theatres. It is a major European cooperative programme in this field of technology. The #MIKRON #NVG is a light weight, image intensified, dual tube binocular that is able to be operated helmet-mounted, head-mounted, or hand-held. The system also features an integrated infrared illuminator. To allow instant usage configuration changes, the user can flip away each monocular separately. The MIKRON is powered by a self-contained single AA battery but can also be used with a remote battery pack for increased operating time.

Active #Cyber #Protection #System for Italian FREMM Frigates Successfully Tested #La Spezia/ #Italy - On board #ITS #Schergat, the ninth FREMM frigate scheduled to join the Italian Navy Fleet in 2025, the harbour acceptance test of an active cyber protection system for the Ship Management System (SMS) was successfully carried out on 16 December 2024 at the Fincanteri Shipyard. This event completes an important process following the successful factory qualification test in September 2024 and adds an important capability to the Italian FREMM ships. Required by the Marina Militare Italiana, Italian Navy General Staff, the cyber protection system will allow the ship to identify possible anomalies in real time and support the management of any cybersecurity incidents. In this respect, the system represents the first cyber risk mitigation with the sole competence of the personnel on board, before the direct support of the Navy Cyber Department. ITS Schergat is the first unit of the Italian Navy to have this capability and will soon be followed by #ITS #Bianchi, for which the same activities are expected to be completed by March 2025. In addition, it is planned to implement it on all other the other FREMM class ships. Final Operational Test of the Lithium-ion Battery System (LBS) Successfully Completed for OCCAR U212 NFS Programme Piedimonte San Germano, December 19, 2024, the final operational test of the #Lithium #Battery #System (LBS) for the #U212 #NFS Programme took place at POWER4FUTURE Spa’s premises, marking a major milestone in submarine propulsion technology. The event was attended by notable figures, including Mr. Joachim Sucker, OCCAR-EA Director, Vice Admiral (ret.) Matteo Bisceglia, Stategic Senior Advisor to Fincantieri’s CEO, Rear Admiral Luigi #Schinelli, Head of 1st Department of Italian Naval Armament Directorate, and represents the Italian Navy’s commitment to advancing its underwater capabilities. This milestone is the result of a decade-long collaboration between OCCAR (Organisation for Joint Armament Co-operation), NAVARM, FINCANTIERI, through the consortium Power4Future-FAAM - Cetena, aimed at replacing traditional lead-acid batteries with state-of-the-art lithium-ion technology. With its unrivaled capabilities, the LBS now stands among the top battery solutions in Europe and worldwide. Additionally, this cutting-edge technology represents the natural evolutionary step for energy storage solutions in the U212A class Mid-Life Update, being deeply embedded in their operational genome. The final test offered a comprehensive evaluation of the LBS, focusing on its safety, technology, performance, and adaptability to demanding and extremely challenging operational conditions. The LBS underwent rigorous technical evaluations to validate its capabilities, with the Single String Converter (SSC) directly linked with the modules string. The test allowed the verification of the behavior of the SSC complex and the string during an operational mission by varying electrical loads, both during the battery usage phases and recharging, up to the maximum permitted levels. The entire activity, in addition to assessing the functional capabilities of the constituent components, also evaluated the effectiveness of the battery monitoring system.

OCCAR Delivers First MMCM System to France Paris/France 19 December, 2024 – OCCAR (Organisation for Joint Armament Co-operation) is proud to announce the delivery of the first #MMCM System to #France. This is the beginning of a new story in the art of underwater mine disposal. The first milestone was reached in 2021 with the delivery of two prototypes/demonstrators to France and the UK shortly after its production launch. Industry, National Experts, Managers and OCCAR faced a number of challenges during the development of this cutting-edge technology, which will ultimately allow the rapid destruction of sea mines in a more cost effective and safer manner than in the past, successfully avoiding human intervention during dangerous operations. The French Navy (Marine Nationale) has been trained and is now ready further develop this new concept, using this technology of drones remotely controlled from a Portable Operation Centre. This First Capability will allow the French Navy to conduct operations in complex environments including uncrewed sonar survey missions up to sea state 4 to maintain precise mapping of the sea floor. European Commission and OCCAR Sign Contribution Agreement for Stage 2 of MMPC Programme #Paris-#Brussels, 12 December 2024 — The European Commission (EC), represented by the Directorate-General for Defence Industry and Space (DG #DEFIS), and the OCCAR (Organisation for Joint Armament Co-operation) for Joint Armament Cooperation (OCCAR), represented by the OCCAR-EA Director, have signed the Contribution Agreement (CA), marking the first significant step for the 2nd Stage of the #MMPC Programme for the development and production phases of at least two ship’s prototypes and for potential new stages to provide new Classes of #Corvettes that could involve four Nations (#Italy, #Spain, #France and #Greece). The purpose of this Agreement is to entrust tasks to OCCAR for the implementation of the Action “European Patrol Corvette 2” (EPC2) and to provide OCCAR a financial contribution for the implementation. This CA establishes the rules for the implementation and for the payment of the Union Contribution and defines the relations between OCCAR and the Commission. With a duration of 24 months, the MMPC Call 1 covers a concept study and the initial design of the ship. The Call 2 frames a new stage of the programme for a four-year period of activities (2026 – 2029), and aims at completing the development phase and producing at least two prototypes - one for Full Combat Multipurpose (FCM) and one for Long Range Multipurpose version (LRM). By joining MMPC Call 1 & 2 Programmes, managed by OCCAR-EA, Participating States an Industries intend to actively contribute to the European autonomy: Economy, Defence, Technology, Industry and Security.
