As the year draws to a close, we invite all members of the Earth System Sciences community to add one more thought to their reflections on the past year: How did I, my colleagues, my collaborators, my institution, my field of research do in terms of open research data management practices? 💭 To help your deliberations, we kindly invite you to take a look at all the articles of the NFDI4Earth Commitment and evaluate their intentions, underlying values, and possible implementations in relation to your own work. 🌍 NFDI4Earth x DMP4NFDI online workshop (13 Dec at 11-13) 🌍 When properly used, data management plans are effective tools to support all phases of the research data lifecycle from data collection to publication. Our ESS community is large and diverse, so the needs in writing and managing DMPs and related templates differ. 🌐 NFDI4Earth at the 1st Base4NFDI User Conference (UC4B2024) https://lnkd.in/eykDY7fN This week, a part of the NFDI4Earth team had the pleasure of participating in the 1st Base4NFDI User Conference at Fraunhofer FOKUS in Berlin. The event provided an excellent opportunity to network, exchange work in progress, and dive into the exciting developments surrounding the Base Services in their initialization phase. We explored promising tools: 🔹 Jupyter4NFDI 🔹 DMP4NFDI 🔹 KGI4NFDI 🔹 nfdi.software … and many others, which are set to enhance collaboration and data management across the NFDI community. A big thank you to the organizers for delivering such an inspiring and well-organized event! 🙌 Representing NFDI4Earth were Ralph Müller-Pfefferkorn, Lars Bernard, Alexander Wellmann, Hela Mehrtens, Jonas Kuppler, Jie Xu, Hannes Thiemann, Dr. Christiane Schmidt and others. 🤓 Neugierig auf eine neue Success Story aus dem NFDI Netzwerk? Das NFDI4Earth-Projekt „World Settlement Footprint (WSF®)“ liefert hochaufgelöste Siedlungsdaten für 2015, 2019 und die Entwicklung von 1985-2015. Diese Daten unterstützen die Analyse von Naturgefahren und fundierte Entscheidungen in Politik und Wirtschaft. Die vom DLR-Team „Smart Cities and Spatial Development“ erstellten Daten werden über den EOC Geoservice visualisiert als Karte und zum Download zur Verfügung gestellt. Zudem können sie über einen auf STAC (Spatio-Temporal Asset Catalogue) basierenden Katalog, der den Nutzern eine optimierte Abfrage und Nachnutzung für die Analyse ermöglicht, zugegriffen werden. 🌍 Mehr dazu: https://lnkd.in/ejQwjM3f 🤓 Curious about a new success story from the NFDI network? The NFDI4Earth project “World Settlement Footprint (WSF®)” provides high-resolution settlement data for 2015, 2019 and the development from 1985-2015. This data supports the analysis of natural hazards and well-founded decisions in politics and business. Um Extremereignisse besser vorherzusagen! ⛈️   🌪️ Durch die Nutzung hochauflösender meteorologischer Daten können Wissenschaftler:innen Modelle (weiter-)entwickeln, die extreme Wetterereignisse wie Stürme, Starkregen oder Hitzewellen präziser vorhersagen. ❗ Das hilft dabei frühzeitig Warnungen auszugeben und besser auf Extremereignisse wie Hochwasser oder Dürren vorbereitet zu sein.   🌐 NFDI4Earth ermöglicht durch die Entwicklung zentraler Services die verfügbaren Daten leichter aufzufinden bzw. einzubinden, stellt dort, wo sie fehlen, dezentrale Infrastruktur-Ressourcen für deren Analyse bereit und unterstützt durch offene Formate den Austausch der Expert:innen.   #whyNFDI? To predict extreme weather events better! ⛈️   🌪️ By using high-resolution meteorological data, scientists can (further) develop models that predict extreme weather events such as storms, heavy rain or heat waves more accurately. ❗ This helps to issue early warnings and be better prepared for extreme events such as floods or droughts. 🌐 By developing centralized services, NFDI4Earth makes it easier to find and integrate the available data, provides decentralized infrastructure resources for their analysis where they are lacking and supports the exchange of experts through open formats. #NFDI #rdm #fdm #science #ClimateScience #DataScience #researchdata #academia
