If you're new to pitching to editors, publications, and podcast hosts, there are lots of free tools out there you can use to help you get started and nab a few bylines. These are my 7 favorite free options, plus a couple of mentions of paid upgrades. Shoutout to Ilija Sekulov for introducing me to the awesomeness that is Mailbutler—I will literally never EVER go back to Boomerang... (Sorry, not sorry...) Also named in my lineup are the fine folks offering free options at Hunter.io, Google, Omnisend, and ClickUp. And while I also mention Twitter (I vehemently refuse to call it by the "letter name"—please excuse me while my eyes roll alllllllll the way back into my head 🙄), I highly recommend a paid subscription with StudyHall.xyz. I have a confession... I'm a hoarder. Not the stuff of reality TV perse, but a digital hoarder. I don't delete emails; I just keep my inboxes and folders full, and it's starting to kill my focus. When I started Peripety Labs, things were great. I had a clean slate, as one does when one starts a new job with a fresh new inbox. I was seeing huge productivity gains very quickly from using AI. Soon, I started adding new vendors, clients, newsletters, and services. All of these have had a growing effect of swamping me with various levels of email that tend to sap my focus. Today, I am doing some spring cleaning of my email. Here's what I am doing to clean things up. I have added filters, which make my inbox a little cleaner but still require a lot of sorting and reviewing. I also use some AI tools, but I have been using but need to be more diligent about keeping up to date or technically trained. Here are three AI-Powered tools that I use that I am doubling down on right now. SaneBox—SaneBox is an email management tool designed to enhance productivity by automatically sorting incoming emails into various folders based on their importance. Thus, users can focus on messages that truly matter. [I had originally trained the AI but then stopped; I spent the morning getting things back up to speed.] Feedly—Feedly's approach to handling newsletter subscriptions through a specific email address involves creating a unique and private email alias that you can use to subscribe to newsletters directly within your Feedly account, keeping your inbox clean. Feedly also includes a collection of machine learning models that help gather and share actionable insights. Mailbutler - Mailbutler went deep in integrating generative AI into its compose window. But it goes a little further, too: It keeps your contact information complete and picks up on tasks mentioned in your emails, two features that set it apart from the competition.
