📣 The final 2024 edition of the #LGMA bulletin is now out! https://lnkd.in/e8cwjGyU 2024 was a landmark year for global sustainability diplomacy, packed with pivotal events: three Rio Conventions COPs, the Summit of the Future, the 6th UN Environment Assembly, the 12th World Urban Forum, and two rounds of Plastics Treaty negotiations. “However, with few exceptions, this marathon of global processes fell short of expectations to accelerate efforts in addressing the multiple emergencies affecting nearly every community—albeit with varying impacts due to deep-rooted inequalities,” writes yunus Arikan, ICLEI Director of Global Advocacy and LGMA Constituency Focal Point, in the editorial. Looking to 2025, the Local Governments and Municipal Authorities (LGMA) Constituency will work to promote multilevel, integrated, holistic collaboration to boost climate ambitions for 2030 and 2050 ahead of #COP30 in Belém, Brazil. With innovative Town Hall COPs and a growing CHAMP endorsers community, the push for impactful action is on. Swipe for updates and join the LGMA monthly webinar for deeper discussions leading to COP30. 👉 On 22 January at 10:00 and 16:00 CET: https://lnkd.in/dem5n6BX #ICLEI #CHAMP #ClimateAction #Belem #LocalGovernments #Sustainability #MultilevelAction

What if your street could transform into a vibrant, people-centered, active mobility hub? 🚶♀️🚴♂️ That’s exactly what Maginhawa Street in Quezon City, Philippines, has become! Throughout November, over 150 volunteers —including community members, local businesses, advocacy groups, and youth—worked together to reclaim this once car-packed street for the community, countering car-centric designs that have crowded out sidewalks and discouraged walking and biking. Now, colorful road murals and shared pathways for pedestrians and cyclists invite residents to socialize, play, and unwind. 🌈 Read more: https://lnkd.in/erasnmcp This collective effort, reflecting #MultilevelAction between community members, local government, and several organizations, is part of the Sparking Active Mobility Actions for Climate-Friendly Cities (SPARK) Project, which uses tactical urbanism —short-term, low-cost, scalable interventions— to promote active mobility. The project aims to build resilient, safe transport systems that contribute to national emission reduction targets and foster climate-friendly mobility behaviors through community-driven strategies. 💡 The project is implemented by #ICLEI and the Institute for Climate and Sustainable Cities and supported by the German Federal Ministry for Economic Affairs and Climate Action and the Federal Ministry for the Environment, Nature Conservation, Nuclear Safety and Consumer Protection through their International Climate Initiative (IKI). 📊 An integral part of the #SPARKProject is collecting data to inform people-oriented urban planning policies. These findings will guide discussions with the local government and community members, paving the way for long-term implementation and replication across Quezon City. Stay tuned, as the project will iterate this intervention in partnership with Pasig City, Philippines, in 2025!
