Representatives of GBCI Europe will take part in the 29th UN Climate Change Conference (COP29) held in Baku, Azerbaijan from November 11-22, 2024. COP29 aims to accelerate global climate action amid escalating environmental challenges. The conference will focus on securing the significant financial investments needed to reduce emissions and protect vulnerable populations, while also urging nations to update their climate action plans to meet the Paris Agreement's 1.5°C target. Key focus areas for COP29 include: 🏭 Clean Energy - fast tracking the energy transition and slashing emissions before 2030 to limit global warming to 1.5° C (2.7° F) 🌱Nature - putting nature, people, lives and livelihoods at the heart of climate action, including helping the most vulnerable communities adapt to the change that’s already occurring. 💰 Finance - deliver old promises and set the framework for a new deal on finance. Climate finance must be affordable, available, and accessible to developing countries. 👨👩👧👧 Inclusivity - mobilize the most inclusive COP ever, ensuring that decisions and discussions, and how the solutions are implemented, are truly inclusive and done in collaboration with Indigenous Peoples and local communities.
