It's always great to see what applications #PreonLab is used for! Thanks to Jakob Košir and T&T Aircraft Propulsion Systems for this cooperation 🤝
💡 𝑾𝒉𝒆𝒓𝒆 𝑳𝒊𝒒𝒖𝒊𝒅 𝑫𝒚𝒏𝒂𝒎𝒊𝒄𝒔 𝑴𝒆𝒆𝒕𝒔 𝑩𝒊𝒈 𝑰𝒅𝒆𝒂𝒔 🌊✈️ As we heat up our delightful "Glühwein" with the supersize kettle test stand, let’s turn up the excitement by adding some dynamic motion to the mix! An exciting project led by our Master’s student, Jakob Košir, as part of the Thermo- and Aerodynamics course at the Institute of Aviation, FH JOANNEUM, takes center stage. Jakob used #PreonLab and its Smoothed Particle Hydrodynamics (SPH) method to simulate tank sloshing dynamics—and the initial results are nothing short of amazing! 𝐖𝐡𝐲 𝐝𝐨𝐞𝐬 𝐬𝐥𝐨𝐬𝐡𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐦𝐚𝐭𝐭𝐞𝐫? These simulations are critical for designing efficient liquid hydrogen (LH2) fuel systems. As we forge ahead, our focus will be on adapting these simulations for liquid hydrogen tanks and integrating them into our #CAE workflow. Here’s what we’re working toward: 🔹 𝘌𝘯𝘩𝘢𝘯𝘤𝘪𝘯𝘨 𝘢𝘪𝘳𝘤𝘳𝘢𝘧𝘵 𝘴𝘵𝘢𝘣𝘪𝘭𝘪𝘵𝘺 𝘣𝘺 𝘳𝘦𝘥𝘶𝘤𝘪𝘯𝘨 𝘥𝘺𝘯𝘢𝘮𝘪𝘤 𝘧𝘰𝘳𝘤𝘦𝘴. 🔹 𝘌𝘯𝘴𝘶𝘳𝘪𝘯𝘨 𝘴𝘵𝘳𝘶𝘤𝘵𝘶𝘳𝘢𝘭 𝘪𝘯𝘵𝘦𝘨𝘳𝘪𝘵𝘺 𝘶𝘯𝘥𝘦𝘳 𝘷𝘢𝘳𝘺𝘪𝘯𝘨 𝘭𝘰𝘢𝘥𝘴. 🔹 𝘚𝘵𝘳𝘦𝘢𝘮𝘭𝘪𝘯𝘪𝘯𝘨 𝘧𝘶𝘦𝘭 𝘴𝘺𝘴𝘵𝘦𝘮 𝘪𝘯𝘵𝘦𝘨𝘳𝘢𝘵𝘪𝘰𝘯, 𝘧𝘳𝘰𝘮 𝘥𝘦𝘭𝘪𝘷𝘦𝘳𝘺 𝘵𝘰 𝘱𝘳𝘦𝘴𝘴𝘶𝘳𝘦 𝘮𝘢𝘯𝘢𝘨𝘦𝘮𝘦𝘯𝘵. A huge shoutout to AVL for their support via the University Partnership Program (UPP), providing #PreonLab to empower our students. This collaboration is helping to shape the future of aerospace talent! 👨🎓 By diving deep into sloshing dynamics, we’re advancing toward a future of safer, more sustainable aviation with liquid hydrogen. We're continuously exploring and developing new features behind the scenes. During the recent release event, we unveiled a sneak peek of our initial steps into turbulence modeling with Vortex Visualization using the Q-Criterion - a commonly used method for visualizing coherent vortex structures. Starting with #PreonLab 6.2, users can color fluid particles based on computed Q-values, enabling the detection and identification of vortices within a 3D flow domain. This feature is especially useful for visualizing vortices in simulations, such as the delta wing scenario showcased in the video below. We’re thrilled about the possibilities this feature opens up and look forward to advancing even further in this area.

Last week, the #FIFTY2 marketing team came together for three days of reflection, planning, and brainstorming. Since some of our team members live quite far away, it’s rare for us to all meet face-to-face, making this time an even more special opportunity to align for the year ahead. As a reward for our hard work, we ended one evening with some fun at the bowling alley! 🎳 Here’s to a successful 2025! 🚀

With #PreonLab, we strive to deliver an all-in-one simulation tool that is capable of integrating a variety of physics features into your simulations. If you joined us for the PreonLab 6.2 Release Event a few weeks ago, you already know that version 6.2 continues to advance this vision, introducing powerful new #multiphysics capabilities. For those who missed it, here’s one of the highlights: a tanker truck #simulation showcasing the integration of the new Full Car Suspension Model with a #multiphase (air and oil) system inside a baffled tank. The Full Car Suspension Model precisely simulates vehicle dynamics and road interactions, while the enhanced multiphase capabilities allow detailed analysis of tank #sloshing during acceleration and braking. This enables comprehensive evaluations of fluid forces acting within the #tank. You can measure these effects using force sensors connected to the desired vehicle components, and easily assess the impact on braking distances for the vehicle with distance sensors. If you're curious about the computational time required for this simulation, it was completed in just 3 hours using a single Nvidia L40 GPU.
