April' 2️⃣ 4️⃣ - Las Vegas, USA (NAB) In 2024, my job took me across 🌎 continents and brought me many exciting experiences and insights. One of the highlights of the year was my visit to #NAB in Las Vegas - a place full of exciting conversations, new technologies and nice people. Here are a few points that stayed in my mind: ▶️ AI in music scheduling One exciting bright spot is the use of AI-generated META data. This enables consistent and accurate tagging, which makes work easier and can improve the quality of playlists. Scheduling data is better managed and categorised on a technical and emotional level. For me, this is a real added value. I would like to recommend #Cyanite. Markus Schwarzer and his team offer automatic tagging of libraries. It's not just about hard facts like sound codes, vocalists or instruments, but also about the emotional categorisation of a song. Since December, this data can be transferred to #MusicMaster for scheduling purposes via a connector programmed by ON AIR | Passion for music and data. The result: consistent tags and the ability to influence (and understand) playlists emotionally. ▶️ AI to support, not replace! For me, traditional music market research for radio stations remains relevant and essential. However, dynamic formats could also benefit from AI by using it to analyse short-term trends. But: The interpretation of this data requires a deep understanding and adaptation of the new technologies to the needs of a radio station. I think: AI can provide support - but the real value of a playlist comes from a strategic combination of technology and human expertise. ▶️ AI - not at any price In conversations I have had, I often find that there is a lot of enthusiasm for AI - but real value is only created when the technology is used in meaningful ways! In my opinion, there is still no workflow optimisation tool 🚫 that uses artificial intelligence to revolutionise music scheduling in its entirety! I would like to point out that perfection does not always require new tools, but often a better use of existing ones! The existing algorithms in tools like #MusicMaster have been offering impressive possibilities for decades - provided you work with consistent and relevant data (and knowledge)! I suggest you check if the existing potential is really being used to the full. At #NAB, I represented ON AIR at the MusicMaster, Inc. booth - a great team! Together with Scott Wirt, Laurie Knapp, Melanie Knapp and the two Jerry's (Jerry Butler - CRMC - Jerry Parker) I had some great days in the USA, even beyond NAB.
