🌟As 2024 draws to a close, we, like many, are still very busy, but also preparing for a relaxing and nurturing time to spend with friends and family. At this special moment, we are excited to announce that Regenerate-as-a-Project (RAAP!) will be collaborating with Climate & Company from Germany over the next six months. With their expertise, we aim to develop a robust business case and governance structure for a portfolio of soil regeneration projects in southern Spain. This collaboration has been made possible through the support of Green Assist, the EU's Green Advisory Service for Sustainable Investments Support. Together with La Junquera Farm—a leading regenerative farm and educational center in Spain—and Het Portaal as our community builder, we are focusing on an integrated approach that emphasizes ecology, economy, and social justice. We look forward to sharing updates on this ambitious project and our collective efforts towards a sustainable future. 🎄𝗪𝗶𝘀𝗵𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗲𝘃𝗲𝗿𝘆𝗼𝗻𝗲 𝗵𝗮𝗽𝗽𝘆 𝗵𝗼𝗹𝗶𝗱𝗮𝘆𝘀 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗮 𝗽𝗿𝗼𝘀𝗽𝗲𝗿𝗼𝘂𝘀 𝗻𝗲𝘄 𝘆𝗲𝗮𝗿! 🎄 David Rusnok, Jan Willem van der Schans, Rien Bongers, Yanniek Marijn Schoonhoven, Alfonso Chico de Guzman, gauthier CLAR #regenerativeagriculture #soilhealth #sustainablelandmanagement #stewardship

  • 💡 🌿 "We have to explain why sustainable value chains and transparent value chains are also resilient value chains. If we've noticed anything from Covid, it's that we have absolutely no idea how resilient our value chains are, and it has completely blown up in our faces. That's why disclosure is not just an end in itself", says our CEO Ingmar Juergens.   In the latest episode of Zackes Brustik's podcast, GewinneZukunft - Nachhaltigkeit erfolgreich umsetzen, Ingmar Juergens explains why sustainability disclosure is the foundation for a resilient economy. He discusses, together with Colin Bien, Co-Founder and CEO of WeShyft GmbH, how we can simplify disclosure and due diligence obligations for businesses in Europe without losing environmental ambition.   ➡️ If you want to learn more about our idea to set up a Transformation Finance Hub in Europe, how the EU Commission's proposal of an #Omnibus Regulation can be an opportunity to integrate the #CSRD and the #CSDDD, and why implementing these reporting and due diligence policies should start at a sector level, you can listen to the full episode in German.   Listen to the episode via: 🎧Apple: https://bit.ly/41DiYmt 🎧Spotify: https://spoti.fi/41zohDD 🎧 Youtube: https://lnkd.in/eFJYSbcV   🌿 In the GewinneZukunft - Nachhaltigkeit erfolgreich umsetzen podcast, host Zackes Brustik provides ambitious sustainability professionals with the answers they need to implement economically successful sustainability.

  • "Sri Lanka needs support from developed countries to mainstream sustainable development in the country” This was the main message by Sri Lanka’s new Minister of Environment, Dr. Dhammika Patabandi (pictured on the right), who we had the honour to speak to during our recent visit to Colombo. Our co-founder David Rusnok (pictured in the middle) travelled to Colombo together with senior expert Elizabeth Tamayo Tabares on 24-29 November to explore how we can together promote Sri Lanka’s green and blue economy.  In our exchange, Hon. Minister of Environment Dr. Patabandi underlined that Sri Lanka requires scientific, technological and financial support from developed countries, in order to support mainstreaming sustainable development in Sri Lanka. As Climate & Company we are grateful that we can be the bridge-builders to facilitate important exchanges that help to promote Sri Lanka’s green economic recovery. During our visit, we interviewed a broad range of stakeholders: from members of the parliament, researchers, media and religious groups - and the minister. We thank our partner Expertise France who implements this important project financed by the European Union. The EU and Expertise France launched a Green Policy Dialogue Facility to support Sri Lanka on its Green Economic Recovery in 2023: https://lnkd.in/eFV84CBR We also took the opportunity to visit a Buddhist monk with Expertise France and a local expert, and of course, to explore Colombo by Tuk-Tuk with Elizabeth Tamayo Tabares. Our next steps: we now look forward to developing awareness-raising and capacity-building strategies to empower key stakeholders to actively contribute to the transition towards an inclusive green and blue economy in Sri Lanka. Please get in touch with us to join our efforts. Ministry of environment, Sri Lanka  #greenrecovery #srilanka

❗The #EUDR must not result in the market exclusion of developing countries and smallholders in the supply chain. This was a key concern of #COP29 participants during our event at the #Ghana Pavilion in Baku last Tuesday. They fear that the EU parliament's proposal of a "no-risk" category would push developing nations further to the edge. 🌍 The informal exchange on how we can make cooperation work along EU climate-critical value chain regulations focused specifically on the EU Deforestation Regulation (EUDR) and the respective commodities cocoa, coffee, beef, soy, timber, rubber and palm oil. The Climate & Company experts Simon Pfluger and Dr. Elisabeth Hoch shared information on the current EU debate on the EUDR. Participants exchanged experiences and views around the EUDR in African countries.  💡 Here's our key learnings from the discussion: ➡️ While everybody agrees that forests need to be protected, many stakeholders in Africa fear market exclusion as well as additional costs that farmers cannot bear. They call for urgent action to provide support and to foster a just transition and beneficial distributional effects. The current proposal of the European Parliament to include a "no risk" category was perceived as widening the gap, giving developed countries more opportunities to expand their market shares in the EU while pushing developing nations further to the edge.   ➡️Support is urgently needed, participants said, as in Ghana and other African countries many cocoa farmers sell their land and forests to informal mining companies, causing even more deforestation, due to the lack of financial viability from managing their land. ➡️Many participants voiced the need for better communication and joint creation of environmental policies and regulations: "One side can only understand what the other side needs if communication happens - right from the start". ➡️ Events where people really engage and discuss are rare at the pavilions of COP29. Most events are based on content presentations and allow for a few questions only. In this roundtable, participants were actively engaging and bringing forward key concerns and viewpoints. One participant concluded: "It is in rounds like these that the truth is spoken". ➡️There is high interest in finding out more on engagement opportunities around the EUDR and other European policies and regulations. Several EU Green Deal legislations with impacts on a global scale have been emerging, such as the EU Deforestation Regulation (EUDR) for agricultural supply chains, the Carbon Border Adjustment Mechanism (CBAM) for carbon-intensive products, the Corporate Sustainability Due  Diligence Directive (CSDDD) for all supply chains and the Corporate Sustainability Reporting Directive (CSRD). For all, communication with partners is essential. 🤝 We were highly inspired by the discussion and the participants and express our deepest gratitude to the attendees. #Deforestation #SustainableSupplyChains #COP29Baku

🌍 The private sector and governments must lead the way to the implementation of the EU Deforestation Regulation (#EUDR)! 🌱 Here’s what we take away from the current negotiations around the 1-year postponement of the EUDR. ✅ Progressive private action matters. No matter the outcome of the negotiations, companies across the globe must not slow down their preparation. They should head-start the implementation of the upcoming rules now. Jointly, we must show that ambitious deforestation-free supply chains are achievable in practice. This is the time for private sector leadership. ✅Collaboration across the globe is needed. The EUDR will play a crucial role in halting deforestation worldwide. So will many other local, national and international initiatives. The Group of 20 (G20) has highlighted the importance of forests and the need for joint efforts to their conservation in the final declaration launched by the Brazilian presidency last week ( ➡️ https://lnkd.in/gf56FbG3). We can halt deforestation, but only together! ✅Support must be massively expanded. More financial and technical support to implement the EUDR is necessary. A focus on creating benefits and new business opportunities in forest regions and countries, especially for small farmers and communities, is needed. The societal costs of losing more forests and biodiversity surpass by far the cost for a massive expansion of support!   🌟 Call to Action: We urge progressive businesses and policymakers to lead by example. Let us not slow down but show leadership for active preparation, collaboration and support for implementing the EUDR and other measures to halt deforestation around the globe. Deforestation-free value chains are within reach, but every day counts. Let’s act now to protect our planet, biodiversity, and future resilience.   ❓ What has happened: The last weeks have shown that the EU’s ambition to protect the world’s forests from EU-related agricultural supply chains is in danger. The EU Commission, Parliament and Council are all in favour of delaying the start of application of the EUDR by one year. They are however still negotiating a proposal by the EU Parliament to introduce a “no-risk” category. #EUDR #Deforestation #SustainableSupplyChains #ClimateAction #BusinessLeadership Louise Simon Dr. Elisabeth Hoch Sofia Helena Zanella Carra, PhD Louisa von Essen
