C1 entwickelt neue, klimafreundliche chemische Produktionsverfahren. Wir denken chemische Reaktionen von Grund an, also beginnend auf atomarer Ebene neu und skalieren diese bis zum Produktionsmaßstab. Das erste Produkt, welches aus unserer Technologie-Plattform hervorgeht, ist ein bahnbrechend neues Verfahren zur Herstellung von grünem Methanol. Mit Hilfe von grünem Methanol lassen sich gleich zwei Industrien weg vom linearen Verbrauch fossiler Rohstoffe hin zu echten CO2-Kreisläufen transformieren: die kohlenstoffbasierte Chemische Industrie und die Schifffahrt. Zusammen sind diese heute für >5% der globalen CO2 Emissionen verantwortlich. Unsere patentierte Technologie erschließt dabei nicht-fossile Kohlenstoffquellen für die Produktion von Methanol. We are happy to announce that Kaan Karacasulu has joined C1 as Project Manager and will lead the Leuna100 project — our pilot plant focused on the cost-efficient and scalable production of market-ready #greenmethanol for #marine and #aviation applications. 👍 Kaan joins us from BASF, where he worked as a Project Manager for Digitalization. Prior to this, he was a doctoral researcher at RWTH Aachen University, where he concentrated on sustainable chemical processes leveraging biological and electrochemical pathways. His expertise includes process design, optimization, cost analysis, and the model-driven development of demonstration plants. Kaan has also contributed to research on e-fuels, with a particular focus on demand-responsive e-DME production processes using RSOC and SEDMES technologies, which is currently being prepared for publication. Few days ago i had the opportunity to speak at the annual conference of the DGMK (German Society for Sustainable Energy, Mobility and Carbon Cycles) and present the joint efforts to bring a new technology into the chemical industry and to scale it up. 💚 I was able to listen to many very interesting presentations from the industry and academia. And i could talk to engaged people from BASF (Dr. Alois Kindler, Dr. Markus Weber), Evonik (Prof. Robert Franke, Dr. Niklas Paul), Salzgitter (Dr.-Ing. Peter Juchmann), Verbio (Dr. Andreas Kohl) and Saipem (Mario Marchionna) and talk about their promising approaches to enable a more sustainable economy. There are serious things ongoing. 📈 And i had a great time with amazing scientists like Prof. Dieter Vogt, Dr. Thomas Seidensticker, Dr. Andreas J. 🚢 𝐁𝐫𝐞𝐚𝐤𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐍𝐞𝐰 𝐆𝐫𝐨𝐮𝐧𝐝 𝐟𝐨𝐫 𝐌𝐚𝐫𝐢𝐭𝐢𝐦𝐞 𝐅𝐮𝐞𝐥𝐬 🌊 The ISO - International Organization for Standardization released a new global standard for using #methanol 💧 as a marine fuel - ISO 6583:2024. This is a huge leap forward for greener, cleaner shipping. The standard was developed collectively with input 💬 from shipowners, operators, engine designers, methanol producers, and many other stakeholders. We’re proud that the Methanol Institute had a seat at the table, with our Senior Advisor, kjeld Aabo, helping to shape the process. The new standard lays out clear specifications for 3️⃣ methanol grades—Marine Methanol Grade A, B, and C—and sets guidelines to ensure methanol can be safely and reliably used in marine engines, fuel cells, and other ship systems. This is a big deal for the shipping industry as it works toward cutting emissions and adopting more #SustainableFuels. I have been living my passion for catalysis research for almost 20 years. It is one of the most complex and challenging tasks I know. It has been a pleasure for me to work with many outstanding people in this difficult field of research for so many years. Many of them have become friends over the years. Since back then so many things changed, when i started quantum mechanical simulations were very exotic, today most of the relevant publications are backed by simulations. Not only have I been able to support many research topics with my insights into catalysis and simulations (at CreativeQuantum GmbH), but I have also been able to apply them directly to my own inventions (at C1 Green Chemicals AG). I am thankful and proud to announce that my colleagues from the catalysis community invited me to join the Kommission of The German Catalysis Society (GeCats) is the platform for the entire German catalysis community in the field of research and application. It currently has around 1100 members from industry and academia. GeCatS promotes the exchange between industry, universities, research institutions and research policy organizations and represents the interests of the catalysis community at national and international level. The German Catalysis Society is supported by DECHEMA, VDI-GVC, GDCh, DGMK and DBG. https://gecats.org
