  • 𝐁𝐫𝐢𝐧𝐠𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐃𝐞𝐬𝐢𝐠𝐧 𝐓𝐡𝐢𝐧𝐤𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐭𝐨 𝐋𝐢𝐟𝐞 𝐢𝐧 𝐓𝐫𝐚𝐝𝐢𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧𝐚𝐥 𝐂𝐥𝐚𝐬𝐬𝐫𝐨𝐨𝐦𝐬. Design Thinking is not just a method for solving complex challenges; it also places high demands on the environment. Typically, it thrives in open spaces with large whiteboards, opportunities for dynamic, standing collaboration, and ample room for co-creative exchange. 𝐁𝐮𝐭 𝐰𝐡𝐚𝐭 𝐡𝐚𝐩𝐩𝐞𝐧𝐬 𝐰𝐡𝐞𝐧 𝐭𝐡𝐞𝐬𝐞 𝐢𝐝𝐞𝐚𝐥 𝐜𝐨𝐧𝐝𝐢𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧𝐬 𝐚𝐫𝐞 𝐧𝐨𝐭 𝐚𝐯𝐚𝐢𝐥𝐚𝐛𝐥𝐞? 𝐓𝐡𝐢𝐬 𝐰𝐚𝐬 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐜𝐡𝐚𝐥𝐥𝐞𝐧𝐠𝐞 𝐈 𝐟𝐚𝐜𝐞𝐝 𝐚𝐭 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐓𝐮𝐫𝐤𝐢𝐬𝐡-𝐆𝐞𝐫𝐦𝐚𝐧 𝐔𝐧𝐢𝐯𝐞𝐫𝐬𝐢𝐭𝐲 𝐢𝐧 𝐈𝐬𝐭𝐚𝐧𝐛𝐮𝐥. 𝐓𝐡𝐞 𝐓𝐚𝐬𝐤: Introducing 55 first-semester engineering students to Design Thinking in a four-hour session – in a traditional lecture room. 𝐓𝐡𝐞 𝐀𝐩𝐩𝐫𝐨𝐚𝐜𝐡: Creative Adaptation and a Structured Process We started by exploring the working methods of geniuses like Leonardo da Vinci. Together, we uncovered that genius is not innate but emerges through countless iterations and continuous learning. This insight formed the foundation for understanding the principles of Design Thinking: 𝐏𝐫𝐨𝐭𝐨𝐭𝐲𝐩𝐢𝐧𝐠: 𝐏𝐫𝐨𝐭𝐨𝐭𝐲𝐩𝐞𝐬 𝐚𝐫𝐞 𝐭𝐨𝐨𝐥𝐬 𝐟𝐨𝐫 𝐥𝐞𝐚𝐫𝐧𝐢𝐧𝐠, 𝐧𝐨𝐭 𝐟𝐨𝐫 𝐩𝐞𝐫𝐟𝐞𝐜𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧. They exist to generate insights, not to seek recognition or applause. 𝐏𝐫𝐨𝐛𝐥𝐞𝐦 𝐒𝐩𝐚𝐜𝐞 𝐯𝐬. 𝐒𝐨𝐥𝐮𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧 𝐒𝐩𝐚𝐜𝐞: 𝐓𝐡𝐞 𝐟𝐨𝐜𝐮𝐬 𝐦𝐮𝐬𝐭 𝐫𝐞𝐦𝐚𝐢𝐧 𝐨𝐧 𝐮𝐧𝐝𝐞𝐫𝐬𝐭𝐚𝐧𝐝𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐩𝐫𝐨𝐛𝐥𝐞𝐦 𝐛𝐞𝐟𝐨𝐫𝐞 𝐣𝐮𝐦𝐩𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐭𝐨 𝐬𝐨𝐥𝐮𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧𝐬. 𝐎𝐟𝐭𝐞𝐧, 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐭𝐫𝐮𝐞 𝐜𝐡𝐚𝐥𝐥𝐞𝐧𝐠𝐞 𝐥𝐢𝐞𝐬 𝐝𝐞𝐞𝐩𝐞𝐫 𝐭𝐡𝐚𝐧 𝐢𝐭 𝐢𝐧𝐢𝐭𝐢𝐚𝐥𝐥𝐲 𝐬𝐞𝐞𝐦𝐬. 𝐅𝐮𝐭𝐮𝐫𝐞 𝐎𝐫𝐢𝐞𝐧𝐭𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧: 𝐈𝐧𝐧𝐨𝐯𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧 𝐝𝐨𝐞𝐬𝐧’𝐭 𝐫𝐞𝐬𝐢𝐝𝐞 𝐢𝐧 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐩𝐚𝐬𝐭 𝐛𝐮𝐭 𝐢𝐧 𝐚 𝐟𝐮𝐭𝐮𝐫𝐞 𝐰𝐞 𝐡𝐚𝐯𝐞 𝐲𝐞𝐭 𝐭𝐨 𝐜𝐫𝐞𝐚𝐭𝐞. Armed with this foundational knowledge, we introduced the Business Design Thinking method. The lecture hall transformed into a temporary Design Thinking space, with walls and windows serving as projection surfaces. Teams worked dynamically, embracing the principles despite the limited physical resources. 𝐓𝐡𝐞 𝐎𝐮𝐭𝐜𝐨𝐦𝐞: 𝐏𝐞𝐨𝐩𝐥𝐞 𝐦𝐚𝐤𝐞 𝐃𝐞𝐬𝐢𝐠𝐧 𝐓𝐡𝐢𝐧𝐤𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐭𝐡𝐫𝐢𝐯𝐞, 𝐧𝐨𝐭 𝐬𝐩𝐚𝐜𝐞𝐬. The students in Istanbul demonstrated that Design Thinking doesn’t require perfect environments but rather the right mindset, curiosity, and willingness to explore new approaches. In a short time, they developed groundbreaking ideas and showcased remarkable teamwork. A heartfelt thank you 🙏 to the Turkish-German University and Prof. Dilek Zamantili Nayir for the invitation, and to Prof. Parissa Haghirian for the recommendation. Special thanks 💪 to Onur Gözütok, Selen Tekindal, and Elif Zengin whose support was invaluable in making this challenging session a success. It was inspiring to work with this new generation of talented individuals in Turkey, who are ready to shape the future with their innovative spirit. #designthinking

“Once You Learn to Fly: Embracing Design Thinking+ and Rediscovering Creativity in Berlin” 📍 Whilst Berlin has been a second home for me over the past two years, attending Akin Duyar's “Design Thinking+ Coach Training” between September 16th-28th made it even more special. ⚙️ The event was both challenging and rewarding. From managing technical needs and supporting online participants to learning and executing the fundamentals of the Design Thinking framework—it was an intense journey that kept me fully engaged without a moment to spare. 📚 A heartfelt thank you to Yoshinori Yoshi Fujikawa, PhD for his eye-opening insights on “Service Management”, and to David Slocum for his inspiring session on “Creative Leadership Revisited”. Their contributions truly enriched the experience and brought us fresh POVs to consider—not just the buzzwords. In addition to the core topics, the sessions with the vocal coach and physiotherapist were invaluable, especially when the schedule became intense. These sessions will be just as crucial when it comes to coaching others. 🌟 What stood out about Design Thinking+ was its emphasis on starting from scratch, following a structured methodology, and prototyping ideas to solve problems or enhance processes—something I’ve realized I’ve been missing. Exploring topics like psychological barriers to innovation and cognitive biases added significant depth to the training, equipping me with tools to overcome obstacles that hinder creative thinking. We are all born creative, but life’s demands often distract us from nurturing that creativity. Now, embracing this mindset feels like honoring my true potential. 🌿 I’m deeply grateful to Akin Duyar for guiding us through these transformative two weeks. Bringing inspiring individuals together and rekindling our innate creativity was truly remarkable. It was a genuine pleasure meeting everyone involved. 🤝 I can confidently say that the Design Thinking framework has already made a significant impact on both my personal life and professional practices. Rediscovering my passion for drawing and designing, and coming up with names and slogans for yet-to-exist products, has been exhilarating. I believe that embracing and applying Design Thinking will lead to meaningful and positive changes in the years ahead, allowing me to fully realize my creative potential. 🛠️ Let's go off-topic for a bit: Take a look at these rough sketches for a shooting plan. It’s an example of how we iterated and improved our ideas while being students of Design Thinking. This hands-on approach has helped me to see the value in constantly revisiting and evolving concepts. 🧩 After learning to "fly" with Design Thinking, could you ever go back? Are you interested in learning more about Design Thinking? I’d love to hear your experiences or discuss it further! #DesignThinking #Coaching #creativity #innovation #personaldevelopment Akin Duyar GmbH Coaching for Radical Innovation and Creative Leadership
