To address this, we recommend: 1- Selecting well-integrated digital health tools that ensure seamless data sharing and availability. 2- Applying quality improvement strategies to enhance clinical, business, and administrative workflows and processes. 3- Incorporating automation, especially AI-enabled solutions, to streamline tasks and reduce manual burdens. When aligned with physicians' needs, these steps can significantly improve workflow efficiency and alleviate burnout.

We have to be very careful about “mission creep”. The novel use of AI technology is here to stay. The challenge is that the new efficiency will soon lead to expectations that the physician can see a higher volume of patients in the same time. Once doctors get rewarded for their knowledge, compassion and hard work, the level of burn out will diminish. Don’t forget that EMR was supposed to relieve the physician of the onerous task of paper charts. We know what that led to, much greater burn out. Don’t let today’s powerful technology cause an increase in burnout.

The problem with efficiency is it bypasses those that studied specifically for health information management. Registered Health Information Administrators are often replaced in the name of efficiency. This happened upon the implementation of the EMR. Instead of checks and balances in Medical Coding nurses now enter the diagnostics and equipment used. I was admitted and had my BP, temperature, and placed on a saline drip by a CNA. She came back and said I needed an MRI. Discharged 45 minutes later. The physician showed up while leaving. Charged for Diverticulitis and Diverticulitis without bleeding, full blood panel, saline, Imaging, the ER room stay, and the hospital. $30,000 for 45 minutes to be told to eat vegetables.

Regardless of career, anyone will experience an overwhelming workload if they do not: 1.) Consider outsourcing routine business processes. 2.) Hire the right people for the role. 3.) Lack of confidence in hiring. (Which is understandable, but part of the risk in business operations). And when they: 1.) Try to do everything on their own. 2.) Fail to plan and create systems. 3.) Try to serve everyone without specializing. There are ton of suggestions to be made, but it all goes down to systems creation and management.

Streamline clinical documentation with AI-powered tools: Implement AI-driven electronic health records (EHRs) that can automatically populate patient data, reducing paperwork and freeing up physicians to focus on patient care. AI-powered dictation tools can also help transcribe doctor-patient conversations, saving time and effort. Utilize AI-based diagnosis tools that can analyze medical images, patient symptoms, and medical histories to provide accurate diagnoses and suggest treatment options.
