How can technology transform modern defence? Our team explored this question at the European Defence Tech Hackathon in Paris, where 170+ participants worked on 34 groundbreaking projects tackling some of the most pressing global challenges. The event started with a keynote by Antoine Bordes, Vice President of Artificial Intelligence at Helsing, setting the stage for collaboration between technologists, the public sector, investors, and operators. It was a dynamic environment filled with brilliant minds and innovative ideas, and we were thrilled to contribute to it. In just 24 hours, our team designed and prototyped an autonomous anti-helicopter air defence system, focusing on its AI component. Led by Marta Hrechyn and initiated by Ihor Radomyselskiy, our team included Kostiantyn Nikolaiev, Vitalii Borodin, Aleksey Pastuhov, and Ihar Rubanau. This effort highlighted Sigma Software’s ongoing commitment to the DefenceTech ecosystem, building on years of experience and previous participation in events such as the Ukrainian Drone Defence Forum in London, the Berlin Security Conference 2024, and #AUSA2024 in the US. The hackathon brought together mentors and supporters from across the DefenceTech community, including Max Makarchuk from BRAVE1, Enrique Munoz de Cote from Mutable Tactics, Kateryna Bezsudna and Maksym Cherkis from Defence Builder, Kyrylo K. from Quantum Systems, and many others. The presence of representatives from the Ukrainian Defence ecosystem, such as the Ministry of Defence of Ukraine and BRAVE1, alongside the Defence Builder accelerator co-launched by Sigma Software, further underscored the importance of cross-sector collaboration. Recently we've had an amazing time at the Warsaw office welcoming the local community for a #Femmegineering meetup. Femmegineering is Sigma Software's flagship project aimed at fighting stereotypes and attracting more women to technical professions. Initially launched by Danir Group in Sweden, the Femmegineering initiative gained new momentum in 2022 when Sigma Software Group scaled it to emerging tech markets across Europe, including Poland, Romania, Bulgaria, and Portugal. The project focuses on making female role models more visible and creating a supportive, inclusive environment where women can access the resources needed to build successful careers in technology. We always strive for equality, and thus we were excited to see men along with women at the event. Moreover, the topics of the speeches were useful to everyone—leading with confidence, boosting personal productivity with AI tools, using empathy at work, managing diverse teams, and coping with multitasking. Last week, our Managing Director DACH, Jakob Kuznicki, attended NATO Edge 2024 by the NATO Communications and Information Agency (NCI Agency)—a dynamic gathering of experts and innovators in defence, cybersecurity, and technology. The event showcased insightful discussions on building resilient digital ecosystems, the latest advancements in cyber defence, and the transformative role of AI in security.
