Om oss

Much has changed since Holmen started out 400 years ago. What was once a manual craft is now all high-tech, but one thing remains constant: our passion for paper and paperboard. As a part of the Holmen Group, our business is centered around the forest ecocycle and the renewable products we can create from it. Across our four production facilities in Sweden and the UK (Iggesund, Hallstavik, Braviken and Workington) we use fresh fibers from sustainably managed forests to produce premium paperboard and innovative paper products suitable for various packaging solutions and graphical applications. Our conscious customers appreciate our products for their unique properties and low climate impact.

  • Created by one of the world’s most successful designers and the former head of HUGO BOSS, Werner Baldessarini, the Baldessarini brand oozes exclusivity. So does their packaging. In only two years, their first-ever female fragrance, Bladessarini Bella, has become the brand portfolio’s best-seller. The success inspired brand owner MÄURER & WIRTZ GmbH & Co. KG to expand the series with its latest product, Bella Lilac Diamond. For both fragrances, Mäurer & Wirtz used Invercote G for the outer packaging material, thanks to its whiteness, lightfastness and converting properties. “Many sections of the Bella design are white, and Invercote G has a very good white point compared with other products on the market, which become a bit yellow over time. And because Bella is a luxury product, we wanted the board to retain its purity,” comments Felix Ziethen, print production manager at Mäurer & Wirtz. For the Bella Lilac Diamond packaging, Mäurer & Wirtz used glitter varnish and laser hologram foil to create a glittering diamond effect. Using the reverse side of Invercote G accentuated these effects even more. “I am very happy that we used Invercote G, which has given us so many varnishing and glittering options. It has really helped us to strengthen the brand and especially the Bella Lilac Diamond concept,” says Linda Haas, Baldessarini brand manager at Mäurer & Wirtz.

  • Can technology and creativity go hand in hand? In the latest issue of Inspire Magazine, we delve into the impact of Artificial Intelligence (AI) on packaging design. AI is stepping in—not to replace designers' artistry but as a creative partner, providing tools to streamline tasks, minimise waste, and spark fresh ideas. Yet, as experts reveal, the heart of design remains human. From concept to final touches, the designer’s vision breathes life into each creation. • UK-based food photographer Ellis Parrinder has used our formable solid bleached board Inverform to display his bold and colourful images in our paperboard sample box – Touching Tomorrow. The box aims to guide and inspire brand owners in making the right material selection and invites them to be part of what’s next in packaging. To make Parrinder’s images truly come alive, we partnered with the print and finishing experts at DREYER KLICHE, Foilco and Atelier für Siebdruck. Which sample is your favourite?

  • Our friends at Ichikudo Printing in Japan are champions when it comes to making eye-catching calendars for clients. This year’s calendar celebrates the vital role of trees, and grows over the course of the year. Multiple layers of premium paperboard are stacked on top of each other to build a tree, each representing a month of the year. Ichikudo chose Invercote G for this project. The printing methods used are offset and screen foil printing as well as hot foil. The base is made from Tokyo cedar.

  • Finding the perfect paper is a fascinating process where you have to consider a number of factors: brightness, whiteness, surface roughness and stiffness. Holmen Board and Paper's bulk advantage allows you to purchase fewer tonnes of paper without sacrificing thickness. This means you buy less paper, resulting in lower carbon dioxide emissions from production and distribution. 💡 Learn more and explore our paper types: https://hubs.ly/Q02YcmkN0

  • Last month, we joined our partners at Business Sweden and co-exhibited at Tokyo Pack – Asia’s largest international packaging show! Hashimoto Koji, our Holmen Board and Paper representative, had a busy time at the show. Over three days, hundreds of visitors from several different industry sectors visited the stand. One of the highlights for us was contributing to the “Sweden Packaging Innovation Seminar,” with a presentation on Swedish forestry and a live streaming session straight from our nursery in Friggesund, Sweden. Swipe through the slides below for some snapshots and to learn about Koji’s key takeaways from the show.
