Throughout the year, with the support of their trainers, the Class of 2024 worked diligently toward Pitch Day. This event culminates in students presenting their prototypes to potential employers and key players in the technology industry. Not only is it a crucial requirement for graduation, but it also marks an important step as they begin their careers. The students developed innovative solutions, many inspired by pressing social issues. Some of the standout projects included: Lost Locate: A portal designed to streamline the search and identification process for missing persons, aiding police and morgue attendants. Themis AI: A solution aimed at reducing the backlog of cases in Kenya's judicial system to enhance efficiency and ensure timely justice. You can watch the pitches here:https://bit.ly/3BfsXDR

On 22nd November, our co-founder and CTO, Andrew Kibe, had the pleasure of being part of the judging panel for the #codeHive 2024 Pitch Competition hosted by AkiraChix. He was alongside Caine Wanjau from Namiri Technology Limited and Nicollet Njora from Kopo Kopo Inc. Together, they had the pleasure of seeing incredible talent and groundbreaking ideas on display by the participants. A huge thank you to Linda Kamau, Founder of AkiraChix, for hosting such an inspiring event and for inviting Lemonade Payments (Baobab ’24) to participate. The future is Tech!

…a few days ago, the good people at AkiraChix invited us for a #techallies breakfast where they presented their #DEI impact report. While women representation in tech is quite low(several stats quoting 18-20% in Africa and 24% globally), it is encouraging to see organizations like AkiraChix stepping forward to seek for women, train them and place them within organizations where they can grow their careers. Our discussion covered several aspects; 💫How do tech companies collaborate with organizations like AkiraChix to build talent beyond hard skills? 💫 What do young women entering the workforce force require to thrive and grow within the tech industry - globally a staggering 56% of women leave the tech industry mid career. 💫 Is gender pay gap still a thing in tech? What could tech companies do to intentionally invest in workforce equity? Thank you Linda Kamau for everything you and the team is doing, thank you for creating a platform where these critical conversations can be held. Another inspiring event at #UNGA79 - Thank you Atti Worku and Katie Bunten-Wamaru and the team from African Visionary Fund for our partnership to create our 2nd annual great event that lived up to its objective of highlighting stories of local leadership! We got real about the pressures and challenges of funding and growth for social ventures. It was inspiring to hear founding stories from Linda Kamau of AkiraChix, Jacques Sebisaho, MD, MPA of Amani Global Works , Lizzie Kiama of This Ability as well as growth stories from Wawira Njiru of Food For Education and Katumba James S. of Wezesha during our second session. The lessons shared in that room will reach far and wide.

Congratulations are in order, Linda Kamau 🎊 🎉 A testament to your remarkable achievements over the years. Kudos!
We are extremely proud and honored to announce that Linda Kamau, the founder and executive director of AkiraChix, is the recipient of this year's Angel for Africa award! 💚 We will award her and four other #AfricanVisionaryFellows at our 2024 Celebration of African Visionaries event in New York City. Linda's steadfast commitment to empowering young women and girls in technology has profoundly impacted the continent. With her natural curiosity and confidence, she has broken barriers and paved the way for countless women in the tech industry. Her journey as a software engineer, often the only woman of color in leadership roles, inspired her to co-found AkiraChix, providing hands-on training and mentorship to young women. Linda's dedication to diversity, inclusion, and gender equality is evident in her work and involvement in organizations like WISER Girls School and the African Visionary Fund. Her passion for technology and drive to make a positive difference is truly inspiring. Congratulations, Linda! Your contributions to the tech industry and your advocacy for women are invaluable. #SFFrockstars #AkiraChix #WomenInTech #ChampioningAfricanVisionaries
