#IamAPHRC's Executive Director, Catherine Kyobutungi, advocates for a global health funding shift from a single-issue agency approach to strengthening national health systems. She highlights how the Global Fund has supported infrastructure for three infectious diseases, yet similar support is missing for noncommunicable diseases like diabetes and hypertension, which are increasingly cutting lives short in Africa. In Kenya, we are in the era of free education—but the majority of children from the urban poor are being excluded. A new report from the African Population and Health Research Center reveals that at least 47% of children from major low-income urban areas in Kenya attend low-fee private schools and do not currently benefit from the Free Primary Education (FPE) initiative, despite being designed to support them.
