The Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) has successfully reclaimed approximately five kilometres of the Kodla River along the Matila border in the Maheshpur upazila of Jhenaidah. This area was previously controlled by the Indian Border Security Force (BSF). This announcement was made during a press conference held on Monday (January 6) at the banks of the Kodla River near the Matila border, organized by the 58th Battalion of BGB. During the press briefing, Lieutenant Colonel Azizus Shahid, the commander of the 58th BGB, noted that 4.8 kilometres of the river lie within Bangladeshi territory. Until this point, residents had been unable to engage in activities such as fishing or other essential tasks in the river due to ongoing obstructions. Lieutenant Colonel Azizus Shahid further explained that the Kodla River runs along the Matila border, and following recent discussions with the BSF, the BGB successfully reasserted control over the river. Moving forward, residents of Bangladesh will have full rights to access and utilize the river's resources. Present at the event were the newly appointed commander of the 58th BGB, Lieutenant Colonel Rafique, and Matila Camp Commander Moktar Hossain. Home Affairs Advisor Lieutenant General (Retd.) Md. Jahangir Alam Chowdhury said, "Detective Branch (DB) officers cannot arrest anyone in plain clothes (civil dress). During operations, they must wear designated attire (jackets) and display identification cards. They cannot act outside the law. Even if I give any orders outside the law, they should not follow them." He made these remarks on Monday afternoon after visiting the Detective Branch (DB) office in Dhaka. The Home Affairs Advisor stated, "Discussions were held at the DB office on how to further improve the country's law and order situation." When asked about the controversial 'interrogation room' at the DB office during the Awami League government's tenure, Jahangir Alam Chowdhury joked, "There will be no 'interrogation room' or any so-called 'canteens.' I would just request DB to make the pond in front of their office as clean as a mirror. The pond should be spotless like a mirror." He added, "If I commit any corruption, you (journalists) should publish it. But report the truth. If I do anything wrong, point it out. However, do not spread false information about things I haven't done. False news... for example, you have countered the Indian media quite well. Everyone deserves appreciation for publishing the truth. Because of your accurate reporting, they (Indian media) are no longer spreading much false news. It has significantly reduced. Similarly, you should always publish the truth." Source : Bangladesh Pratidin #news #bdnews #dhaka #banglasesh #updatenews #sozoo #sozootoday

In a significant cybersecurity breach, City Bank in Bangladesh has had sensitive client financial statements exposed and sold on underground hacking forums, according to a recent blog post by the Bangladesh Cyber Security Intelligence (BCSI). BCSI confirmed the incident in early 2025, raising serious questions about the state of cybersecurity within the nation's financial institutions. Following the discovery of the breach, BCSI notified City Bank, prompting the institution to address the vulnerability immediately. By 3 January 2025, the issue had been resolved. Previously, in mid-2024, BCSI had warned City Bank about vulnerabilities in its systems, highlighting potential exploitation risks. Researchers demonstrated how attackers could withdraw client funds and access sensitive information. While City Bank reportedly addressed the immediate issues, subsequent events suggest these measures were insufficient, as per BCSI's blog. In December 2024, a CS-CERT contributor alerted BCSI to a threat actor advertising City Bank's client statements for sale on underground forums. An investigation confirmed the legitimacy of these claims, identifying a vulnerability that allowed unauthorised access to client statements. According to BCSI, the breach was facilitated by technical flaws in session management. This involved Attackers bypassing weak multi-factor authentication (MFA) due to inadequate session handling. Once logged in, previously authenticated sessions could be reused to access other accounts. Source : The Daily Star #news #bdnews #dhaka #banglasesh #updatenews #sozoo #sozootoday

After being removed from the Ministry of Liberation War Affairs’ website, the original documents of the Razakar list have also gone missing from the ministry itself. Ministry officials and employees are holding former minister AKM Mozammel Haque responsible for the removal of the controversial Razakar list. An administrative officer of the Ministry of Liberation War Affairs stated that AKM Mozammel Haque faced immense pressure from the then-government as the list contained the names of several Awami League leaders, including Advocate Golam Arif Tipu, former Chief Prosecutor of the International Crimes Tribunal, and former Awami League MP Abdul Latif Mirza. Advocate Golam Arif Tipu had submitted separate applications to the Ministry of Law, the Ministry of Home Affairs, and the Ministry of Liberation War Affairs, requesting the removal of his name from the list. Ministry officials claim that the previous government made the entire list disappear. Source: Daily Bangladesh #news #bdnews #dhaka #banglasesh #updatenews #sozoo #sozootoday
