#DYK that agency is a key part of food security? Agency can be defined as the rights and capabilities of people to feed themselves with dignity and to engage with and shape their food systems. Agency empowers individuals and groups to make decisions about the food they eat, produce, and distribute. Agency is also the ability to effectively engage in decision-making processes and governance at local, national and global levels. It is our right to decide what we eat, how it is produced, and to engage in policy processes. 🔎Read more in the statement by Akiko Suwa-Eisenmann, HLPE-FSN Chairperson at #CFS52⤵️ Committee on World Food Security

At the 15th General Assembly & Scientific Conference of the African Academy of Sciences, I made a presentation on "Gender and intersexuality considerations in science leadership". I noted that we have made some progress within the academia and other spheres, however, too many glass ceilings remain unbroken. Throughout the ages, the sharing of power, wealth, influence, employment, among others, between men and women has never been close to equality. I submitted that the attributes required to lead effectively has no correlation with gender or sexuality and concluded that diversity and inclusivity is a work in progress which must be approached with intentionality. I especially celebrate the African Academy of Sciences for doing me the honour of electing me Fellow in 2012. I thank Prof Okonofua, Secretary General of AAS and immediate past E-in-C of Proceedings of the Nigerian Academy of Science for the honour of the invite. #AASGA2024 #AASGeneralAssembly

✨👏Software tools for calculating the Cost of a Healthy Diet
If you're following new work on the cost and affordability of healthy diets, there's a nice new paper with data from The Gambia from our friends at LSHTM: https://lnkd.in/ekiFB-A3 Title is "Affordability of healthy and water-saving dietary patterns in The Gambia", using household survey data matched to food composition and water footprints of each product, for computation of least-cost nutrient adequate diets accounting for environmental impacts. Paper is led by Jyoti Felix and Zakari Ali, PhD with Rosemary Green, Andrew Prentice, Kris Murray, Bakary Jallow, Indira Bose, Genevieve Hadida & Pauline Scheelbeek. Folks interested in this domain can download software tools for use with any dataset of item availability and prices, and also join our colleagues for presentation and discussion in the ANH Academy - Agriculture, Nutrition and Health Research Community on Food Access: https://lnkd.in/eU--bzp3 hosted at the London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine, U. of London

Folks, this is an important initiative - cybersecurity in agri-food will affect the future of our food system so thanks to Janos Botschner, PhD (He/Him) for leading and do consider participating.
Attention food value chain stakeholders! In January 2025, we will be launching a survey on the role that cybersecurity standards might play in helping to make your sector - and this critical infrastructure - more cyber prepared. Please stay tuned and consider participating.
