Chi siamo
The Logistics Cluster is responsible for coordination, Information Management, and for facilitating access to common logistics services to ensure an effective and efficient logistics response takes place in humanitarian emergency missions. The Logistics Cluster enables global, regional and local actors to meet humanitarian needs. Before crises, we work with the stakeholders in high risk countries and regions to strengthen local capacities. In crises, where local capacities have been exceeded, we provide leadership, coordination, information and operational services. Globally, the Logistics Cluster is a community of partners actively working to overcome logistics constraints, develop and share best practices and solutions. The cluster approach was adopted in 2005 as a result of the Humanitarian Reform process launched by the United Nations Emergency Relief Coordinator, through the Inter-Agency Standing Committee (IASC). The Reform process focused on strengthening coordination and accountability, enhancing partnerships in key sectors, including logistics. Because of its expertise in humanitarian logistics and its field capacity, the United Nations World Food Programme (WFP) was chosen by the IASC to be the lead agency of the Logistics Cluster. In this role, when necessary, WFP acts as a provider of last resort offering common logistics services, to all humanitarian responders.

On 26 November, the Nigeria Logistics Sector organized an Access Workshop with 40 participants from the #humanitarian community to discuss and address ongoing access challenges in North-East and North-West #Nigeria. Logistics and bureaucratic challenges, adding to the access and security challenged environment, make it difficult to reach populations in need and effectively provide aid in these regions. The workshop equipped humanitarian aid workers from national NGOs and community-based organizations with knowledge on principled humanitarian access and capacity building to help them overcome the challenges and deliver life saving assistance.

Today, we hosted the Humanitarian Leadership Group on Supply Chain meeting in Brussels. This high-level event brought together 27 representatives from United Nations agencies, NGOs, the private sector, donors, and academia to address a critical challenge: supply chains account for 60-80% of humanitarian aid expenditures. To meet growing global needs, strategic alignment among humanitarian actors is more crucial than ever. This meeting marks the start of a transformative journey to redefine humanitarian supply chains. A series of workshops in 2025 will focus on five key pillars: 🌍 Procurement: increasing efficiency and effectiveness 🌱 Preparedness: strengthening supply chains 💚 Environmental sustainability: reducing environmental impact/providing greener solutions 💻 Digitalisation: embracing smarter systems 🤝 Localisation: reinforcing local supply chains This launches a process which will be open to all interested actors. Together, we can ensure that aid reaches those in need more efficiently and sustainably - because this is the heart of what we do. #EUHumanitarianAid © European Union, 2024.
