🌱 The Agroecology Coalition is actively engaged in Riyadh for COP 16, dedicated to combating desertification. We, together with and through our members, (co-) organized impactful events on thematic days focused on land (December 4) and agri-food systems (December 5). These discussions brought to light #agroecology as a transformative solution to the pressing challenges affecting our land. Aware of the alarming global statistics on land degradation and challenges related to soil health and aridity, the enriching contributions from farmers, government officials, policy experts, researchers, and business leaders shared their perspectives, experiences and solutions to tackle these issues through agroecology, sustainable land management, and other innovative approaches. Our conversations also emphasized the importance of aligning efforts across the three Rio Conventions and the role of agroecology in connecting these together. Furthermore, we were honored to participate in the launch of the Riyadh Action Agenda during the High-Level Dialogue on “Enabling environment to catalyzse the transformation towards sustainable, resilient and inclusive food systems.” Our coordinator, Oliver Oliveros, along with our Steering Committee member, Esther Penunia, showcased the immense potential of agroecology during this discussion. 🙏 Many thanks to our co-organizers and speakers!
