🌊 World Wildlife Conservation Day: Preserving Bali’s Sacred Ocean This World Wildlife Conservation Day, let's talk about the intricate connection between wildlife conservation and protecting ecosystems under threat. Bali is home to one of the most diverse marine ecosystems on Earth. The ocean surrounding Bali supports 76% of the world’s coral species and 2000+ species of reef fish. This delicate ecosystem is a lifeline for marine life and the local communities that depend on it. And plastic pollution threatens to undo it all. Indonesia ranks among the largest contributors to ocean plastic pollution. Plastic waste clogs waterways endangers marine life, and threatens the livelihoods of local communities. Through Project Segara Kerthi (Balinese for Sacred Ocean) operated in partnership with Waste4Change, we have recovered 323,885 pounds of plastic waste! At Project Segara Kerthi we are driving a sustainable solution by: • Increasing plastic waste collection through a growing network of formal and semi-formal waste workers. • Ensuring verifiably recyclable plastic waste is transported to certified recyclers, preventing it from leaking into the environment/ocean. By empowering waste workers, enhancing waste recovery systems, and protecting critical habitats, Project Segara Kerthi protects Bali’s marine life and the communities that depend on it. This World Wildlife Conservation Day, let’s commit to safeguarding our planet - our environment, people and wildlife #WorldWildlifeDay #SacredOcean #ProjectSegaraKerthi #PlasticPollution #Sustainability #RepurposeGlobal
