Meet Gil Batista, Associate at Shilling VC. With his knack for discovering talent and a passion for venture capital, he's making Shilling’s mission even more impactful every day! 🍦𝗛𝗼𝘄 𝘄𝗼𝘂𝗹𝗱 𝘆𝗼𝘂 𝗱𝗲𝘀𝗰𝗿𝗶𝗯𝗲 𝘆𝗼𝘂𝗿 𝗷𝗼𝗯 𝘁𝗼 𝗮 𝗯𝘂𝗻𝗰𝗵 𝗼𝗳 𝗳𝗶𝘃𝗲-𝘆𝗲𝗮𝗿-𝗼𝗹𝗱𝘀? Imagine your job is to find the best ice cream in the world. Then, you give money to the ice cream maker so he can open a shop, and when lots of people buy his ice cream, you both get to share the success. 🚀 𝗜𝗳 𝘆𝗼𝘂 𝘄𝗲𝗿𝗲 𝗼𝗻𝗲 𝗼𝗳 𝗦𝗵𝗶𝗹𝗹𝗶𝗻𝗴'𝘀 𝗽𝗼𝗿𝘁𝗳𝗼𝗹𝗶𝗼 𝗰𝗼𝗺𝗽𝗮𝗻𝗶𝗲𝘀, 𝘄𝗵𝗶𝗰𝗵 𝗼𝗻𝗲 𝘄𝗼𝘂𝗹𝗱 𝘆𝗼𝘂 𝗯𝗲 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝘄𝗵𝘆? I’d be TLDV because they deliver great results while having fun and not taking themselves too seriously. 🧠 𝗪𝗵𝗮𝘁’𝘀 𝘆𝗼𝘂𝗿 𝘀𝗲𝗰𝗿𝗲𝘁 𝘁𝗮𝗹𝗲𝗻𝘁 𝘁𝗵𝗮𝘁 𝗻𝗼 𝗼𝗻𝗲 𝗸𝗻𝗼𝘄𝘀 𝗮𝗯𝗼𝘂𝘁? I have a 10 second recorder in my brain that allows me to be distracted but never get caught out when someone asks me what did they just say (which my wife hates but it's great for multitasking). 💛 𝗪𝗵𝘆 𝗦𝗵𝗶𝗹𝗹𝗶𝗻𝗴? Shilling gave me the challenge I needed to dive into something I’ve always been super curious about: becoming a VC. The opportunity to work with such a passionate and fun group of genuinely great people is the cherry on top of the experience.

At Shilling, we’re fortunate to have access to incredible talent in our community, like Eduardo Barroso, Head of Startup Ecosystem at PwC and one of our brilliant External Advisors! Eduardo, who is currently leading PwC’s emerging technology practice while actively supporting the Portuguese startup ecosystem, shared some valuable entrepreneurial insights from his journey. Here’s his standout advice: ❌ Don’t underestimate bureaucracy: Navigating corporate bureaucracy can be challenging. ❌ Avoid overpromising: Be realistic about what your startup can deliver. ❌ Don’t ignore the importance of legal and compliance: Corporates have strict legal and compliance requirements. Ensure that you understand and adhere to these. ❌ Don’t underestimate corporate culture and processes: Corporates operate differently from startups. They often have more complex decision-making processes, longer sales cycles, and a different risk appetite. Eduardo, with his extensive experience as a project manager leading global enterprise-level deliveries, along with his deep business intelligence expertise, is scaling PwC’s tech efforts to new heights! A big shoutout to Eduardo for being a valued member of the Shilling community and for sharing his insights with us!
