This is exactly what APQP, developed years ago, helps us do. Starting by understanding the VOC and translating it into project parameters. Without this, we engineers cannot think of technical solutions capable of delivering the demand. Then the team search possible solutions and their commitments, supported by tools such as DFMEA and defines tests that can verify the project's adherence to its objectives. We continue with prototyping and testing until we reach the project objectives. Remembering that every project has to consider the production stages. Therefore, the DFSS approach is very productive. It seems like a lot of theory, but over my more than 30 years of experience, I guarantee that everything is perfectly applicable.

Ponder on all DFMEA points and get rootcauses of all painpoints. Experimentation and validation is must along with virtual simulations.

Well, It depends on the kind of performance we are talking about. If it is a regulation one, there is not discussion we need to change to meet the requirements obviously. If it is a customer perception item and to fix it we need to spend additional costs I would look alternatives to of set the cost impact but attend the customer satisfaction item. And if it is serious item impacting (probably) the sales targets I would also change to correct it and study alternatives again to compensate the figures impact. Well I thing that those are the most important issues so far.

After years launching vehicles in the market as a Design Release engineer in multiple OEM’s and EV’s you start figuring out that there are one zillions types of control to ensure engineers will not deviate or create short cuts for the development process and ensure you have the best performance product in the world though there are 2 very small details: Cost and timing.

The only sure way to make sure performance will not be compromised is to go back to the drawing board and go through the FMEA and review it with the new requirements in mind. You almost always get the satisfactory results
