I would definitely recommend setting up ads for the brand name targeting all identified keywords with negative sentiment. On this note, using your social media accounts to take a proactive approach maybe even making memes that explain the situation as concise depictions of the perpetrators bad actions could bounce their messaging back and build personality into the brand. From a legal standpoint there is free speech but also libel which is a crime and with investigation finding the ip and/or group who is responsible could be addressed with strong language or court action, this should be done non publicly. Build content on a subdomain with exact match kw and responses plus adding surveys & aggregate reviews that rebuke false claims outright.
