Here’s how one mentor changed my life. (It's not how you think) I was stuck in my career, spinning my wheels. Working harder than ever. Yet the big opportunities kept passing me by. One day, I confided in my mentor. I told them how it felt. Like my work wasn’t enough. 𝙇𝙞𝙠𝙚 𝙄 𝙬𝙖𝙨𝙣’𝙩 𝙚𝙣𝙤𝙪𝙜𝙝. And they said something I’ll never forget: “Your work gets you noticed. 𝙔𝙤𝙪𝙧 𝙣𝙚𝙩𝙬𝙤𝙧𝙠 𝙜𝙚𝙩𝙨 𝙮𝙤𝙪 𝙘𝙝𝙤𝙨𝙚𝙣.” 👉 It hit me like a lightning bolt. I’d spent so much time 'proving' myself, I’d forgotten to 𝗰𝗼𝗻𝗻𝗲𝗰𝘁 with the people around me. So I started showing up differently. I reached out. Asked for advice. Had conversations that felt scary but real. Doors I thought were locked? ↳ Opened. Support I didn’t know I needed? ↳ Arrived. Because networking isn’t about schmoozing. It’s about connection. Real, human connection. People I once saw as out of reach? Became allies, champions, clients... and 𝗲𝘃𝗲𝗻 𝗳𝗿𝗶𝗲𝗻𝗱𝘀. Your next opportunity? It’s not just in your work. It’s in the connections 𝘆𝗼𝘂’𝗿𝗲 𝗯𝗿𝗮𝘃𝗲 𝗲𝗻𝗼𝘂𝗴𝗵 𝘁𝗼 𝗺𝗮𝗸𝗲. 🎙️ In our latest More Than A Lawyer episode...we chat with Bradley Collins, CEO of LegalTechTalk (Europe’s largest legal tech conference). He shared how networking changed 𝙚𝙫𝙚𝙧𝙮𝙩𝙝𝙞𝙣𝙜 for him. Going from 𝘇𝗲𝗿𝗼 to one of the most well-known and well-connected names in law - 𝗮𝗹𝗺𝗼𝘀𝘁 𝗼𝘃𝗲𝗿𝗻𝗶𝗴𝗵𝘁. 🎧 Listen here: https://lnkd.in/epDcVNai

1 Conversation can change your life. (It did mine.) For the longest time, I believed: Nothing extraordinary ever happened to people like me. Then I had a breakthrough: Opportunities come from people. I'll tell you a story. This year, I was on stage at the biggest legal event in Europe moderating a panel discussion on the future of law at LegalTechTalk . Something I never thought would happen. How? 1 conversation - with the CEO. This got me thinking: The right conversations lead to the right opportunities. So, do this: Keep taking action. Keep having the right conversations. ...and sooner or later, the two will collide in ways you never imagined. Every action you take, Every conversation you start... is one step closer to the opportunities you’re waiting for. 👉 So talk more 🎙️ In the latest episode of More Than A Lawyer we've gone full circle. We chat with Bradley Collins the CEO of LegalTechTalk. We uncover how he's creating the largest tech conference in Europe and how he broke into the legal industry. Want to know a secret to legal career growth? This was NEVER taught in law school. Yes, we learned cases, statutes & rules. We mastered the law. But here’s the truth: Success as a lawyer isn’t just about working harder or being the smartest person in the room. It’s about something no one talks about. Here it is: 👉 You need to think like an entrepreneur and act like a marketer. Whether you’re aiming for partnership, climbing the ladder, or building your client base... ...this is the game-changer. Because the world has shifted. The future of law isn’t just about who knows the law It’s about who’s KNOWN for knowing the law. You want to build a career on your terms? You have to get visible. Think about it: When clients reach out, they’re not just looking for “a lawyer.” They’re looking for YOU. That means positioning yourself as the go-to expert. Showing up where your ideal clients are. Owning your space in the market. Here’s the lesson they didn’t teach us in law school: It’s not just about being excellent at what you do. It’s about making sure the right people see it. The lawyers who understand this? They’re not just surviving the shifts in the industry. They’re leading them. 🎧 Listen to the full episode here with Holly Cope & Helen Pamely: https://lnkd.in/dM9Auu3f

I quit law for flexibility I believe this will be a trend in 2025 Law firms won't be competing with other law firms for great lawyers... They’ll be competing with flexibility. Rewind 3 years when I left law. Everyone thought I was crazy: “You’re leaving your secure job?” But NOW? They want to know how I did it. But the reality was this: - I couldn’t work where I wanted. - I couldn’t take time off when I wanted. - I couldn’t work during my peak productivity hours. I saw partners and managers who were stressed, always “on,” and struggling to disconnect. I didn’t want that for myself. But here's the thing: Not everyone has to quit to find the flexibility they need. People are redefining their careers & creating their own versions of flexibility. We’re seeing a rise in: - Digital nomad lawyers - Independent consultants - Remote legal roles People are no longer stuck in the traditional 9-to-5 grind. 👉 Gen Z has more demands for work-life balance. 👉People are “quiet quitting” 👉 Others are building personal brands & businesses Realising they can live and work anywhere with the internet being all of our unfair advantage. Flexibility is the future. Wouldn’t you agree?

All good things must come to an end. (Even when it’s heartbreaking) When I quit my job as a law firm Partner... Most people thought I was stark raving mad. They were convinced I’d be back before too long. Why would anyone walk away from a career most people would give their right arm for? All that prestige, money, and security. (Not to mention the years of study and graft) But what they didn’t see was the bigger picture. I wasn’t just quitting. I was moving toward something greater. 𝗖𝗿𝗲𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗮 𝗹𝗶𝗳𝗲 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗮 𝗯𝘂𝘀𝗶𝗻𝗲𝘀𝘀 𝗼𝗻 𝗺𝘆 𝗼𝘄𝗻 𝘁𝗲𝗿𝗺𝘀. Working wherever I want. Choosing the clients I want. Having the opportunity to stand on big stages. Giving my honest and open opinion on the industry. Doing my part to make the world of law a better place. This year, I’ve: • Founded a new business. • Launched an Academy. • Met incredible new friends. • Landed clients I never dreamed of. • Became co-host of More Than A Lawyer podcast. • Worked remotely from Bali, Barcelona, and Marbella.    If you’d told me two years ago this is where I’d be... 𝗜 𝗻𝗲𝘃𝗲𝗿 𝘄𝗼𝘂𝗹𝗱 𝗵𝗮𝘃𝗲 𝗯𝗲𝗹𝗶𝗲𝘃𝗲𝗱 𝘆𝗼𝘂. Today, I leave sunny Spain for Christmas in the UK. It’s lovely to go back. 𝗜𝘁’𝘀 𝗮𝗹𝘀𝗼 𝗵𝗮𝗿𝗱 to let go of such a magical year. But here’s what I know for sure: (and it's what I take with me into 2025) ⭐ 𝗔𝗻𝘆𝘁𝗵𝗶𝗻𝗴 is possible. 👉 Never let anyone tell you otherwise. 🎄 PS... Happy holidays! Are you ready for Christmas yet?! 😉

  • Want to progress in your law career? Here’s the formula: Progressing in law isn’t just about grinding harder. Here’s what really works: ✅ Understand the business of law. ↳ Learn how your firm works and where you can add value. ✅ Build a network intentionally. ↳ Real connections lead to real opportunities. ✅ Develop your personal brand. ↳ Be known before you’re seen. ✅ Find mentors and sponsors. ↳ Surround yourself with people who will champion your growth. The takeaway? Work smarter, not harder. Know the rules of the game, and play to win.

People glamorise remote work Let me tell it straight (from someone who’s been living it) Remote work as an entrepreneur will: - Drain you. - Push you out of your comfort zone. - Challenge your routines. - Test your patience. - Leave you feeling isolated. - Make you question your choices. Sounds tough? But guess what: Office life does the same: - It drains you. - Forces you into routines you may not love. - Tests your patience. - Challenges your boundaries. - Leaves you questioning your path on those soul-crushing commutes. Both are hard in their own ways. When I worked as a lawyer, the 9-5 grind was exhausting. As a remote entrepreneur, the freedom comes with its own weight. There’s no easy road. It’s just a matter of choosing the challenges you’re willing to face. Because at the end of the day, it’s not about avoiding hard work... ...it’s about finding the work that aligns with your values, your goals. oh…and the life you want to build. Would you agree?

How can the people in your firm feel valued, confident and supported? I listen to lots of podcasts around Legal. Legal Tech, Leadership, Consulting and I love anything business development. In the intro of this podcast by Holly Cope she's interviewing Ronen Olshansky and there is a killer quote... "It's not who you know, it's the people that THEY know." It's so true... anyway, back to my point. I think this podcast (which has great content and is very professionally put together - kudos Holly Cope, I know it's what you do, but still 👏) is an awesome resource for leaders of law firms. It provides an opportunity to listen to specific podcasts and share them internally with your team. What did you listen to, what did you find compelling, where is the value. Share a link with your people and allow them to learn from these amazing resources, whilst feeling a little safer in the knowledge that this is content their leaders believe credible and worth listening to. Something they share to support and motivate their people. Food for thought. Wanted to share. I'm listening to another 10 mins, and the rest at lunch. Merry Christmas 🎄
