Telecoms are normally very good at planning these activities outside business hours and off peak season. Testing in a pre-production environment is very important. And they do that too. Kudos But let's face it... it is hard to replicate production exactly despite the best efforts. Having a quick fallback plan is important. If something goes wrong Telecoms can't be hostage to a fix we never know how long it is going to take, simply because the consequences are disastrous.
