  • Omarsa at Cerrito de los Morreños: Empowering 10 Women Through Child Nutrition and Breastfeeding Training Cerrito de los Morreños is more than just a community; it's a responsibility we at Omarsa take to heart. Home to nearly 1,000 people, this community is at the core of our ongoing efforts under the "Productive Development Unit" initiative. On Wednesday, September 4th, we proudly awarded "Community Watchers" certifications to 10 local residents, 9 of whom are women, following their training in child nutrition and breastfeeding. This initiative was made possible through collaboration with experts from both the public and private sectors. "At Omarsa, we're committed to empowering communities and driving positive change in the regions surrounding our farms. Today’s training was a significant step in enhancing the well-being of families, especially through the dedicated women of Cerrito de los Morreños," said Paola Rodríguez, Head of Social Responsibility at Omarsa. The certification event was honored by the presence of key contributors, including Mauricio González, District Director of the Ministry of Public Health; Sara Flores, Coordinator of the Faculty of Life Sciences at ESPOL (Escuela Superior Politécnica del Litoral); Carlos Lino, President of the Cerrito de los Morreños community; Victoriano Vera, member of the Puná Parish Council; and Manuel Hinojosa, representative from the Ecuador Secretariat for Growth Without Child Malnutrition. This certification, along with our Omarsa Social Coin project, reflects our mission to foster sustainable development and generational change from early childhood in the communities near our shrimp farms. Paola further emphasized, "It’s been a truly impactful day. This initial phase focused on essential education in food and nutrition, critical for preventative health and holistic community development. We believe in shared responsibility—strengthening communities through education and sustainability."

For all these reasons, Ecuadorian shrimp has become the driving force behind massive productions and exports that are of great significance to our country’s economy and trade. Its nutritional value, affordable price, and unique flavor—widely recognized in dozens of countries—have made our product a distinctive hallmark worldwide. • Why are shrimp a great nutritional option? • Low in calories: A lean protein source with few calories. • High in protein: Provides about 18-20g of protein per 100g. • Low in fat: Contains minimal fat, mostly healthy omega-3 fatty acids. • Rich in vitamins: High in B12 and selenium, important for energy and immunity. • Low in carbs: Virtually carbohydrate-free, suitable for low-carb diets. • Five key points to maintain our cold chain Maintaining the cold chain for our products is one of the most important needs in our factory. That’s why today we’ll discuss five processes that contribute to this goal. Refrigerated Transport: Our shrimp is transported from the farms to the plant in special containers with ice, ensuring that the proper temperature is maintained throughout the journey. Controlled Process: During all stages of production, we use ice and ensure that the temperature is kept within the accepted ranges. We have constant controls to guarantee product quality. Proper Freezing: We use state-of-the-art freezing equipment that ensures the shrimp quickly reaches the necessary freezing temperatures to maintain its characteristics and freshness. Controlled Storage: We have specially designed warehouses with advanced technology to maintain constant temperatures. These warehouses are equipped with monitoring and alarm systems that activate in case of any deviation from the established temperature. Refrigerated Distribution: The product is distributed in refrigerated containers with continuous temperature monitoring, ensuring that the cold chain remains intact until the product reaches its final destination. This way, our product reaches more than 60 countries around the world, preserving its quality.

Omarsa Social Coin, a social project that excites us A social responsibility program initiated in Cerrito de los Morreños, on Chupadores Island. This project aims to encourage the local residents to participate in environmental care within the community by collecting plastics in the mangrove. For each kilogram of plastic collected, Omarsa will provide a coin that people can exchange for essential goods. In this way, we raise environmental awareness, promote a circular economy, and most importantly, generate sustainable and eco-friendly actions. Omarsa also provided training to fishermen and residents of Cerrito de los Morreños on waste management and classification. This way, we strengthen our neighboring communities and foster social co-responsibility.
