London remains the world’s most desirable city for work London has been named the world’s most desirable city for work for a tenth consecutive year. While London came out on top, Amsterdam, Dubai, Abu Dhabi, New York, Berlin, Singapore, Barcelona, Tokyo and Sydney all made the top ten. Alongside the English capital, several other UK cities made the top 100, with Edinburgh 53rd, Birmingham 58th, Belfast 79th and Glasgow 83rd. The survey also saw the UK land fourth spot on a ranking of the most popular countries. Australia took the top spot, followed by the US and Canada. The poll saw 17% of global professionals identify the UK as one of their top three destinations if they were to relocate. The Decoding Global Talent survey, which was conducted by Boston Consulting Group (BCG), The Network and The Stepstone Group, polled more than 150,000 workers from 188 countries. L'évolution rapide du marché du logement et la crise du coût de la vie ont rendu particulièrement difficile la mobilité internationale dans les zones urbaines déjà très coûteuses (Londres, Paris etc). Les entreprises doivent non seulement revoir les éléments financiers de leurs politiques de mobilité, mais aussi envisager le soutien nécessaire avec l'aide de sociétés de relocation/ déménagement etc). Cela pourrait signifier qu'il faudrait abandonner l'approche de l'indemnisation forfaitaire (lump sum) au profit d'une orientation plus pratique par le biais de sociétés de relocation, apportant ainsi le soutien nécessaire pour réduire le stress de l'employé et de sa famille, améliorer le bien-être et garantir l'attraction, le déploiement et la rétention des meilleurs talents.
The rapidly changing housing market and cost of living crisis has made international relocation into expensive city areas particularly challenging. Organisations must review not only the financial elements of their relocation policies but also consider the support that is needed. This might mean moving away from a lump sum compensation approach to more hand-held guidance thereby giving the necessary support to reduce employee and family stress, improving well-being and ensuring the attraction, deployment and retention of the very best talent.

London has once again been crowned the world's most desirable city for work according to the latest "Decoding Global Talent" survey. This 10-year streak solidifies London's position as a global hub for talent and finance. The survey, which included over 150,000 participants across 188 countries, ranked Amsterdam, Dubai, Abu Dhabi, New York, Berlin, Singapore, Barcelona, Tokyo, and Sydney after London. Other UK cities like Edinburgh, Birmingham, Belfast, and Glasgow also made the top 100! The UK itself has become the most attractive European destination for international talent, ranking 4th globally (surpassing Germany) despite challenges attracting EU workers post-Brexit. The study suggests this appeal is driven by job opportunities (71%), quality of life (58%), and safety (44%). This news comes amidst UK labour shortages. Sebastian Dettmers, CEO of The Stepstone Group (survey co-author), highlights how attracting global talent can address this gap, especially in social care, logistics, and hospitality. The report also acknowledges the global "great people shortage" caused by declining birth rates and skill mismatches. However, the rise of remote work offers a promising solution to expand the talent pool, benefiting businesses, governments, and workers worldwide.
