Jetstar Asia’s Colombo-Singapore route to lure more Australian tourists The recently launched Colombo-Singapore direct route by low-cost carrier Jetstar Asia is poised to boost tourism in Sri Lanka by enhancing accessibility for Australian travellers among others. With this launch, Jetstar Asia becomes the only low-cost carrier operating in the route. Backed by an extensive network of codeshare partners, including Qantas and the Jetstar Group, the airline aims to facilitate travel from Australian regional towns to major cities, further opening doors to Sri Lanka. Jetstar Asia CEO John Simeone expressed optimism about the potential to increase tourist traffic from Australia. “Due to the unique proposition we offer as a low-cost carrier, I think Australians find value in connecting through the Singapore Hub to visit Sri Lanka. It also gives them an opportunity to spend a few hours in Singapore before arriving in Colombo,” said Simeone. He noted a growing interest among Australians to explore new destinations. “A lot of Australians are looking to travel to places they haven’t been before, so I think this is a great opportunity to visit Colombo.” Simeone highlighted high demand for the Colombo-Singapore route among Australian travellers. “We think this demand will grow as more flights operate between Colombo and Singapore,” he added. Australia remains a key focus market for Sri Lanka’s tourism sector. As of the 20th of this month, Australia was ranked as the seventh-largest source market, with 73,289 tourist arrivals. Connectivity has often been a barrier, but Jetstar Asia’s partnerships and route expansion aim to address this challenge. Simeone emphasised the strategic advantage of Jetstar Asia’s codeshare partnerships. “It means we can connect with our full-service carriers at the Changi Airport hub, which is a real benefit. We have a significant number of passengers transferring at Changi. We are one of the very few low-cost carriers that offer such a service,” he noted. He pointed out that Qantas alone operates over 50 flights a week from Singapore to key Australian cities such as Brisbane, Perth, Darwin, and Sydney. “There’s an amazing opportunity to connect via Changi Airport from a Jetstar Airways flight onto a Qantas flight,” said Simeone. #SriLanka #Australia #lowcostcarrier #JetstarAsia #Jetstar #aviation #toursim #Qantas #budgetairline #Singapore #accessibility #connectivity https://lnkd.in/gZh9KSkp

Really good points Sarthak Ahuja Regarding Goa: tend to agree. There are other destinations in India ripe for development but accessibility and enough accommodation is definitely a problem to be solved. Even with Goa, transportation options within the state are limited and expensive (unless you rent a bike which is tough if you have kids). It’s seasonal so off-season deals are definitely attractive but you risk not being able to do any activities. There are many beaches in Kerala particularly southern Kerala outside of Trivandrum that are great candidates for attention and development. The Konkan coast between Goa and Maharashtra. Hope some investment and people willing to play the long game start to explore these opportunities. #tourism #india #travel #goa #kerala #transportation #development #accessibility #cars #busses #trains #vacation #beach TOURISM INDIA TOURISM INDIA Birla Institute of Technology and Science, Pilani - Goa Campus Goa University Kerala Startup Mission Kerala Tourism Incredible India, Ministry of Tourism, India
Do you know what's the most sought after travel destination of 2024? I was at the Dubai airport this morning and while looking at people lined up at the boarding gates, I noticed one line was unusually long... It seemed like people chose to stand in a long line out of excitement, not wanting to wait while a few people boarded... I guessed it would be a queue for Delhi, but quite surprisingly, was a string of travellers for Baku! The number of people traveling to Azerbaijan has skyrocketed... In fact, the searches for Baku online have surged by 438% in 2023... and are only going higher in the current year. As per the Skyscanner Travel Trends Report 2024, it's among the top destinations of Indian travelers at the moment along with Da Nang (Vietnam) and Almaty (Kazakhstan). This sudden rush is on account of cheaper flights (25k round trip), an e-Visa that comes in less than 3 days, and overall a fairly affordable destination. But above all, this has been because just a handful of Indian travel influencers started hyping up the place a little over a year ago... and then it went all dominoes. In the first 2 months of 2024, the number of travelers to Azerbaijan are up ~50% from the same period last year. But for Indians to take all the credit would be unfair... The highest no. of tourists are actually from China, followed by Russia. A quick search online will show you a 40 page document that the country developed as a tourism strategy in 2020 to reduce dependency of its economy on fossil fuels... And look at the execution! I think India needs to develop at least 20 such destinations across the country to be no less than other global destinations over the next 4 years... ...and all of us will have to collectively hype it up in support of the govt. To start with, Goa seems extremely overrated to me now. And we need some virgin destinations that beat those in Thailand, Bali and Vietnam to begin with. #casarthakahuja #travel #economy
