As the holiday season wraps up, a new season begins: the season of retail returns 🛍️ Did you know that in the United States alone, $890 billion worth of goods are estimated to have been returned to online sellers in 2024? The US National Retail Federation calculates that around 17% of the country’s merchandise sales ended up as “returns” last year. Many items are never resold, and end up as landfill. And even those that do go back on sale incur a hefty additional carbon footprint thanks to the transportation, packaging and processing. Our CEO Rachel Delacour spoke to CNBC’s Personal Finance specialist Jessica Dickler about the issue, and how returns impact on businesses’ environmental footprint as well as their bottom line: https://lnkd.in/eqcRtD6h

Happy New Year to all of our followers and network! As 2025 begins, a topic that's top-of-mind for us and many of you, is the CSRD. It’s the European Union (EU)’s landmark directive, requiring 50,000 businesses in the EU and many more beyond, to disclose data on their Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG) performance. As of this year, the first tranche of companies will be required to submit their first CSRD reports. What’s more, a new batch of businesses came into the scope of the CSRD as of Jan 1 2025. It’s all rather new, and may seem daunting. That’s why our CSRD experts at Sweep have prepared some explainers to help you get your head around what your company will need to do, and how. Here’s part 1, with our Chief Product Officer Raphael Güller Stay tuned for more explainers coming soon - and for more in-depth information about the CSRD timelines and requirements, head to https://lnkd.in/exfdbBC3 #CSRD #ESG #sustainability

As ever more moves are made towards achieving global climate targets, businesses are increasingly focused on understanding and reducing their own environmental impact. For many organizations, Scope 3 emissions, which encompass all indirect emissions from a company’s value chain, represent the largest part of their carbon footprint. Unlike Scope 1 (direct) and Scope 2 (indirect energy) emissions, Scope 3 includes emissions from activities that occur outside of a company’s direct control but are integral to the production of the final product. These include emissions from suppliers, transportation, and even the downstream use and disposal of products. So why does measuring Scope 3 emissions matter? And how can businesses organize their suppliers into tiers? To find out more about Scope 3 and how mastering it can help you achieve value for your business, click here to read our in-depth article: https://lnkd.in/eSvdVYqd #supplychain #scope3 #sustainability

Calculating your organization’s first carbon footprint can be a daunting task. How to collect the data? Where to start? And perhaps most importantly - how to get the best value for your business, out of the results? These were some of the questions our customer Caudalie was facing. With ambitious sustainability goals and an environmental ethos running through the company’s DNA, it was important for the French skincare brand to choose the right technological tool for the task. We are proud to have helped Caudalie to create its first ever carbon footprint, streamlining its sustainability data management in the process - leaving team members more time for the all-important task of taking sustainability action. Caudalie’s Sustainable Development Manager Angelique Vacher told us why her team turned to Sweep, and how the platform has transformed their work. As many of you are busy with last-minute holiday shopping… we are thinking about another kind of procurement: sustainable procurement for businesses. As global priorities shift toward addressing climate change and fostering social responsibility, the understanding of corporate procurement has grown to include broader environmental, social, and governance (ESG) concerns. Some elements that today’s procurement leaders must consider: ✳️ the price and quality of goods and services ✳️ climate impacts ✳️ resource efficiency ✳️ social responsibility being embedded in their supply chains Companies increasingly expect their procurement departments to demonstrate alignment with sustainable investment practices, as sustainability now impacts both financial and reputational outcomes. So, how can this all be achieved? Our experts in sustainable business have prepared some helpful pointers. Click here to dig deeper into these essential topics: 👉 https://lnkd.in/eZmhmTnr #procurement #sustainableprocurement #supplychains
