A year in the forest – wrapped 🌳 As we approach the end of the year, we want to express our heartfelt gratitude to you. Our clients' support has been the driving force behind our efforts to protect ecosystems, restore #biodiversity, and ensure sustainable #forestry across Europe. Together, we’ve made incredible progress towards creating a greener and more environmentally responsible future. Here’s a look back at some of EcoTree’s most impactful milestones: ➤ Five new forests joined our management, four in France and one in Denmark, bringing the total to 62 #forests under our care. ➤ 700 hectares of protected zones (including Natura 2000 and ZNIEFF areas) and 150 hectares of #wetlands are now under our stewardship. ➤ We supported 250 #ecosystem restoration projects across Germany, France, Denmark, Italy, the U.K., Belgium, and Romania. ➤ Launched three innovative R&D initiatives: a forestry project in Langonnet in collaboration with the Brittany Region, a #biochar project in La Chapelle Saint Rémy, and a #climate adaptation project in the French Prealps. ➤ Hosted five webinars and published six white papers in French and English. ➤ Connected with over 15,000 people across Europe through events, fairs, and initiatives like the Climate Fresco. As we approach the end of the year, our planting season in France is still in full swing. Stay tuned for updates on the number of trees planted - we’ll share those early in 2025. ✨ We’re deeply grateful to everyone who has supported our mission this year. Your involvement has helped make these achievements possible. 💪 Let’s continue building a sustainable future together in 2025 and beyond.

Forget those boring gift baskets this year - how about giving the gift of nature? 🌳 You're not just handing over a thoughtful present when you gift trees. You're planting a legacy that supports sustainable forestry, enriches ecosystems, and boosts biodiversity. A tree isn't just a gift for today; it contributes to a greener tomorrow. 🌟 Need a concrete example? Swap out that predictable bottle of wine for trees in one of our sustainably managed forests. It lasts longer, grows stronger, and gives back to the planet. Pretty neat, right? Learn more via the link in the comments. 🔗

Two years on, nature’s comeback is full of surprises! In 2021, we installed 13 nesting boxes in the Chapelle Saint Rémy forest to support species like kestrels, tawny owls, and bats. This 13-hectare woodland had been clear-cut before we purchased it, leaving a critical lack of natural nesting sites. Two years later, an inventory revealed a mix of exciting progress and unexpected challenges: Success stories: 🐦 Great tits have taken up residence in several boxes. 🦇 A European Barbastelle bat now occupies one of the chiropteran roosts. Challenges to overcome: 🐝 Some boxes have been invaded by Asian hornets and ladybirds, displacing intended species. 🕊 The kestrel box remains empty for now - but we’re hopeful! This project reminds us how delicate nature’s balance is and the patience needed to restore it. Small wins, like a single bat or bird finding a safe haven, show that we’re moving in the right direction.

As the year comes to a close, it’s time for reflection - AND action. For many companies, this includes evaluating progress on their carbon reduction, avoidance and contribution goals 🌍. If your company has invested in carbon credits to address unavoidable emissions this year, now’s the moment to ensure you’ve accurately tracked their use. Do you know how many carbon credits you’ve retired? And more importantly, do you know why retiring them is critical for maintaining transparency in the voluntary carbon market? We’ve got you covered! Our latest article breaks down how to retire a carbon credit and why this step is essential for validating your environmental commitments. 🔍 Dive into the lifecycle of carbon credits here: https://lnkd.in/dRDjMQwD Are you still looking for a tangible way to mitigate unavoidable emissions that positively impact our environment and benefit your local community? 🙋 Reach out to us to explore how we can support your sustainability journey. #Sustainability #CarbonCredits #NetZero

What employee gift never goes out of style? Let’s face it. Branded mugs and notebooks are nice. But do they inspire growth? Or will they end up in a drawer somewhere, collecting dust? Let’s think outside the box. Or rather, outside in the forest! 🌳 Here’s why your company should gift trees this season: 🌱 Tackle overconsumption: A tree is a gift that grows, not something that ends up in the bin. 🌿 A boost for European forests: Trees help restore ecosystems and fight climate change. 📈 Strengthen your brand: Showcase your company’s dedication to sustainable values. 🌍 Long-term impact: Recipients can track their tree’s growth and see it become a sustainable resource. Gift a tree, and watch it grow (literally and metaphorically). What’s your favourite sustainable gift idea? Share your thoughts below or tag a colleague who needs inspiration this gifting season!👇

Why did the forest manager bring a camera to work? To take some progress pictures, of course! 📸 After a year’s delay due to tricky weather 🌧️, our project in Nouic is finally in full swing. Over 20 hectares of former farmland are being transformed into a thriving, mixed-species forest – all planted by hand! Led by forestry manager Clément B., the team is working on creating a vibrant ecosystem that includes preserving a mature Oak stand and a precious wetland area. We’re using a natural repellent to protect the young trees, ensuring they grow strong for generations to come. Clément also spotted white storks heading south while planting, a beautiful reminder of nature’s connection. 🌿 #forestry

You can’t always order sunny weather for a forest visit, can you? After a night of snow ❄️, lashing rain ☔️ for eight straight hours, and hail and wind 🌪️ to top it all off, it’s safe to say that nature had its own plans this time! Earlier this week, Christian Bergius and Julia Marissa Fuchs joined some of our clients, the landowner, and participants from the Future Forest Initiative for a memorable forest visit in the Harz region of Germany. Together, we planted about 2,000 trees of a mix of Oak and Maple.🌳 Once fully planted, the #reforestation project will feature a rich mix of species, including Small-leaved Lime, Sweet Chestnut, Norway Maple, Black Walnut, Red Oak, Wild Cherry, and conifers like Douglas, European Larch, Coastal Grand Fir, Silver Fir, and Pine. The aim is to establish a resilient mixed-species forest with continuous cover that will thrive for generations. The evening before, the group explored the picturesque town of Stolberg, visiting its local art gallery and museum, a lovely way to set the stage for the work ahead. A massive thank you to Christoph zu Stolberg, Mansha Marwah, Tobias Goslar, Marco Goette, Christoph Ameseder and the many others who braved the weather and rolled up their sleeves for this vital project. Your dedication and enthusiasm make efforts like these possible, no matter the conditions. We’re already looking forward to the next chapter in spring next year. Fingers crossed for some sunshine then, though we’ll be ready for whatever the weather brings! 💪

Crowdfunding is one of our favourite ways to test new ideas or products. It helps us understand what excites a specific audience and how we can grow together, literally. 🌳 So, what’s this new idea? Over on Coop Crowdfunding's platform, we’re exploring whether tree owners (and tree lovers in general) would love to showcase their contributions to European forests with something tangible, beautiful, and meaningful: a limited-edition poster. Picture this: a gorgeous sessile oak in all its glory to celebrate your role in actively increasing Denmark’s forest cover. But here’s the thing - we need to know if this idea has roots. That’s where you come in! ✨ If you’d like to get your hands on this poster or simply support the expansion of the Orø-Margrete forest in Denmark, head on over to our crowdfunding campaign and join us in making it happen. You can keep the rewards yourself or gift them to someone for Christmas. Check it out here 👉 https://lnkd.in/dgnpWKac #crowdfunding #afforestation

A major milestone for Denmark’s forests! 🌳 The final agreement Den Grønne Trepart sets Denmark on a bold path to plant 250,000 hectares of new forest, a key step in tackling climate change, enhancing biodiversity, and protecting drinking water. Key highlights: ➤ 250,000 hectares of new forest is the total target. ➤ 22 billion DKK allocated until 2045. ➤ 2.4 billion DKK for 20,000 hectares of state-managed untouched forests. ➤ 20 billion DKK for 230,000 hectares of private forests. ➤ A new subsidy scheme for private afforestation launches in 2025. ➤ Nearly 1 billion trees are to be planted! Private actors are vital to this transformation. By connecting businesses and individuals to afforestation projects, they create sustainable forests that capture CO2, enhance #biodiversity, and restore #ecosystems, all while making sustainability investments more accessible. However, the focus is shifting to high-impact areas like nitrogen reduction and biodiversity enhancement, raising the stakes for financing. Strong public-private partnerships are more crucial than ever to meet these challenges. 💡 Private #afforestation matters because: ➤ It leverages private capital to align with national goals. ➤ Innovative models simplify sustainable investment. ➤ It bridges the gap between ambition and action. Let's plant some more trees! 🌳 Ministeriet for Grøn Trepart Read the agreement here (in Danish): https://mgtp.dk/aftaler/
