Physicians do not resist patient-centered care. They resist added administrative burden. In my years working alongside clinical teams I have learned thay physicians thrive when they can focus on their patients—not paperwork. Patient-centered care isn't about adding more processes, more documentation, or more reports. It's about empowering the human connection between providers and patients. When we enable physicians to build trust and a therapeutic relationships, we not only improve outcomes but also support the well-being of care providers. As we guide practices through patient-centered medical home trasformation, we must prioritize reducing administrative burdens. Let’s innovate in ways that keep humanity at the center of healthcare.

Second, present evidence-based data to support proposed changes or initiatives. Third, foster a collaborative environment by working together to find mutually beneficial solutions. Finally, maintain clear, concise, and respectful communication while building strong professional relationships based on trust and mutual respect. By employing these strategies, it is possible to overcome resistance and ultimately improve patient care.

Patient centred care initiatives may be met with resistance from the physician colleagues if everyone is not taken on board. So the team has to be taken into the confidence to make it a success. Talking to the colleagues on the initiatives, making argument that is evidence based and devising the strategy/ process together will certainly lessen the resistance and build confidence and trust among the team members.
