🔬 T1 Contrast Imaging with ESIONs (feat. SimPET) 🔬 Extremely small-sized iron oxide nanoparticles (ESIONs) hold promise in overcoming the limitations of traditional iron oxide nanoparticles (IONPs) as T1 contrast agents. 📋 Study Insights: ESIONs achieved a consistent size (9.35 nm) and favorable r1 relaxivity (3.43 mM−1s−1) with a reduced r2/r1 ratio (5.36), key for T1 contrast enhancement. Extended circulation times and hepatobiliary clearance pathways were observed, with minimal renal excretion. Preclinical assessments confirmed tolerability at doses up to 25 mg/kg. With tools like SimPET, the study utilized advanced imaging to monitor blood clearance and organ distribution of ESIONs, demonstrating their potential for clinical applications such as tumor imaging, live-cell tracking, and hyperthermia therapy. 🔬 Fibrosis Detection in Hypertension (feat. SimPET) 🔬 How early can we detect tissue injury and fibrosis in major organs? Using SimPET, researchers investigated the role of fibroblast activation protein (FAP) in hypertension-induced fibrosis through 68Ga-FAPI46 PET imaging in a preclinical model. 📋 Study Highlights: Hypertensive mice underwent imaging with SimPET at 1, 2, and 4 weeks, alongside biodistribution studies and immunohistochemistry. Increased FAP expression was observed in the heart and kidneys as early as week 1, correlating with early fibrotic activity. However, overt fibrosis was only identified in heart tissue.
