Attending the Women in Tech event powered by TechSaloniki left us feeling inspired and motivated! 💡 The Women in Tech Network is a dynamic alliance of leading multinational companies in Northern Greece – Accenture, Chubb, Deloitte, EY, and Pfizer – dedicated to empowering women in tech and advancing gender equality across the industry. During the event, our Community and Program Coordinator, Evi Triantopoulou, moderated a powerful panel discussion on key topics shaping the future of tech. Together with Eleftheria Despoinara (Data & AI Director, Accenture), Evgenia Kousari (Recruitment Business Partner, Chubb), and Lina Tsaltampasi (President, SEGE), they explored the most promising areas within AI, the importance of ensuring innovations are inclusive and accessible, and the skills and roles in highest demand today. Did you know? ➡️ In 2023, only 2% of invested capital in Europe went to all-women founding teams, with mixed teams receiving 5%. Meanwhile, an astonishing 93% was directed to men-only teams*😲 This disparity has significant consequences, including missed economic potential, reduced innovation, and the perpetuation of gender stereotypes, among other issues. At WE LEAD, we’re determined to change that 💪🏽 As a first step toward making a tangible impact, we’re excited to announce our contribution to Found.ation's Startups in Greece Report, in collaboration with EIT Digital. Through focus groups with men and women investors as well as women founders at various fundraising stages, we gained valuable insights into the gender gap in financing and explored possible solutions. 📌 Highlight: Although both groups share similar experiences in meetings and pitches, they navigate these environments with different perspectives, and biases. To address these biases and other factors contributing to the gender gap in financing, it is essential to come together and first agree on the nature of the problem, as the analysis reveals a lack of consensus - particularly on how much weight each group places on biases. On today’s tip on how to become a better ally: pass the mic Being an ally means actively ensuring that all voices are heard, especially those that are often overlooked or interrupted. Passing the mic is a simple yet powerful way to uplift others and create a more inclusive environment. In meetings or discussions, take moments to redirect attention to those who haven’t had the chance to speak. For instance, you might say, “Eleni, we haven’t heard from you on this. What do you think?” Or, “Mike, I know your research focused explicitly on this phenomenon. Do you want to weigh in here?” Sometimes, the opportunity to elevate someone’s voice comes later. A thoughtful follow-up like, “Maria, that idea you mentioned this morning is really important and isn’t getting the attention it deserves. I’d love for you to bring it up on the call at noon. If I’m able, I’ll pass the floor to you. Is that cool?” can make all the difference. When others turn to you for insights on a project that’s someone else’s responsibility, redirect them respectfully. A response like, “Nancy is the project manager running point on this. I’m happy to weigh in as needed, but she’s your first point of contact and should always be looped in,” not only highlights their expertise but ensures they get the recognition they deserve. Passing the mic is more than a single act - it’s about creating a culture where everyone feels valued and heard. By doing so, you contribute to a more inclusive, collaborative space where great ideas can thrive.
