HELP US, HELP THEM!

Sobre nosotros

The Jaguar Rescue Center is a temporary or permanent home for ill, injured and orphaned animals. Working with all kinds of wild animals like felines, primates, reptiles, birds etc, the JRC provides veterinary services, round-the-clock care and comfort to animals that would otherwise be unable to survive in the rainforest or in the sea of the Caribbean. The primary goal of the JRC is to rehabilitate animals and reintroduce them back into their native habitats. Monkeys, birds, sloths, snakes and more are brought to the JRC and treated by professional veterinarians, caregivers and a hard-working team of staff and volunteers. In addition to the animal-care services, the JRC provides educational services to the residents and visitors of Costa Rica, as well as internship and research opportunities for biologists, veterinarians and researchers from around the world.

  • 🌟 November: An unfortunate Record-Breaking Month! 🌟 This month, we rescued 132 animals—our busiest month in over a decade! From sloths to monkeys, every life matters, no matter how small. But this milestone comes with a challenge: our facilities are under immense strain. The surge in rescues highlights the urgent need for our hospital expansion project . With a new space, we can ensure every animal gets the care, comfort, and healing environment they deserve. You can be part of this transformation. Every contribution, no matter the size, brings us closer to building this vital facility. Together, we can give these animals the second chance they deserve. 💚 ➡️ https://lnkd.in/e2mH2avT #AnimalRescue #WildlifeConservation #MakeADifference #SupportWildlife

  • An emotional day at Jaguar Rescue Center Foundation. If you remember, in mid-September, we rescued 10 green sea turtles from poachers. Thankfully, none of them had serious injuries and were able to return to the sea. Along with the turtles, 138 eggs were also rescued and entrusted to Turtle Rescue Cahuita, who took them under their care to ensure they had a chance to hatch. The odds were slim, but after more than two months of dedicated efforts, 16 eggs hatched on November 25th. Thanks to the incredible work of Turtle Rescue Cahuita and the JRC, these tiny turtles now have a second chance at life. We are deeply grateful to the team for inviting us to witness this unforgettable moment. We wish these little ones the best of luck as they begin their journey in the wild.

  • We are reaching out !!!!! 🌳 A Tale of Resilience in the Trees Did you know our center is surrounded by towering trees that are home to an incredible variety of wildlife? Recently, a pregnant three-fingered sloth had an unfortunate accident when the branch she was hanging onto broke. Our veterinary team quickly assessed her condition and discovered a fractured tibia and a dislocated knee. With expert care, they placed a splint on her leg to stabilize the injury and prevent further damage. 🦥 The good news? Her baby appears healthy, and we’re hopeful she’ll be giving birth soon! Until then, mom is enjoying plenty of fresh leaves and specialized care to support her recovery. We’ll keep you updated on her progress! ✨ We need Help ! This Giving Tuesday Costa Rica campaign is crucial for expanding our Veterinary Hospital, ensuring we can continue to provide lifesaving care to animals like this brave sloth. Please consider supporting our campaign and help us give Costa Rica’s wildlife the medical attention they need to thrive: Donation Link. https://lnkd.in/e2mH2avT 🏗️ Calling All Partners We are seeking partnerships with construction companies, building suppliers, equipment manufacturers, and hospitals to donate materials and equipment for this critical renovation and expansion project. Your contribution will directly impact the care we can provide to Costa Rica’s wildlife. Together, let’s build a better future for the animals who depend on us. #GivingTuesday #WildlifeConservation #VeterinaryCare #SustainableDevelopment #CommunitySupport

  • ✨ Exciting Milestone at the JRC! ✨ We’re thrilled to share that our baby monkeys are taking their first steps into a bigger world! 🐒 Kumo (our little spider monkey), along with Togo, Moyo, and Poppy (howler monkeys), have been growing under our care and are now ready to explore our forest enclosure. This spacious, secluded area allows them to safely discover nature, develop agility, and make new friends like Wim and Bruna. These early steps are critical for their journey toward independence and eventual rewilding. 🌳 But as our rescue numbers continue to grow, so does our need for expanded facilities. That is why that for tis Giving Tuesday Costa Rica , we launched a campaign to support the expansion and renovation of our Veterinary Hospital—the only facility of its kind in Costa Rica’s Caribbean region. With this expansion, we can continue providing lifesaving urgent care like surgeries and much more to animals, giving them a second chance at life in the wild. 💚 Your support is more critical than ever. Together, we can make a lasting impact on Costa Rica’s wildlife. Help us expand our hospital so we can keep up with the demand for care and ensure every rescued animal has the space and resources they need to thrive. 🌱 Join us in giving these animals the future they deserve! https://lnkd.in/e2mH2avT #GivingTuesday #WildlifeRescue #VeterinaryCare #JaguarRescueCenter #Conservation #WildlifeRehabilitation #AnimalRescue #CostaRicaWildlife

  • This Giving Tuesday Costa Rica , help us make a lasting impact on Costa Rica’s wildlife! With a 5% increase in rescues every year, our dedicated team faces mounting challenges to provide the lifesaving care that so many animals urgently need. We’re launching an important initiative: the expansion of our Veterinary Hospital—and we need your support! Our current facilities are stretched to capacity, and every gift, big or small, will help build a space where animals can be cared for, and healed. We are partnering with Amigos of Costa Rica, a fiscal sponsor so that U.S.-based donors can make tax-deductible contributions permitting the support to go further! Together, this Giving Tuesday Costa Rica , let's create a brighter future for Costa Rica’s incredible wildlife. https://lnkd.in/e2mH2avT

In a few days my nine-week sabbatical will come to an end; a very impressive and extremely educational time. In September I backpacked through Peru and Bolivia. I immersed myself in the culture and history of these countries and made many great acquaintances with locals and travelers from all over the world. For once, the focus was neither on achieving goals nor on maximizing quality, but rather I had the privilege of just experiencing and enjoying. In October I volunteered at the Jaguar Rescue Center Foundation (JRC) on the Caribbean coast of Costa Rica. I basically swapped my top-heavy office work for physical work outside, which challenged me in a different way at over 30 degrees Celsius in combination with very high humidity. Volunteering at the JRC includes a broad range of tasks. For example doing the dishes, cleaning up after the animals or baby-sitting birds, macaws, sloths and monkeys. Thank you very much JRC for the many unforgettable and valuable experiences. I will highly recommend you. A big thank you goes to Migros-Genossenschafts-Bund, David Girod, Sacha Cahn, Thomas Stalder and Clarence Dale Pajarillaga, who made this break possible. The nine-week change of perspective was absolutely brilliant and I am returning to HH14 with new energy.

  • ⚠️ Graphic Content Today, our team responded to a tragic incident involving two howler monkeys who fell victim to electrocution. A male and female, likely from the same troop, were found on the same road and died on impact. In an even more heartbreaking discovery, we learned that the female was pregnant. This month alone, we’ve rescued eight animals affected by electrocution, with three not surviving. Rapid urban development in the area contributes to the rising number of electrocution incidents, and this year, we’ve rescued 45 animals, with 55% surviving their injuries. For those that do survive, the recovery process is long and arduous, with rewilding only possible for some. Through our Shock Free Zone program, we aim to reduce these incidents by insulating power lines and installing aerial wildlife bridges, with the great collaboration of Grupo ICE Please consider supporting our efforts to prevent these tragedies and create safer habitats for local wildlife. 👇 https://shorturl.at/lxMXR

  • 🐢 Exciting Update: Our Last Sea Turtle Has Returned Home! Yesterday, we released the final green sea turtle from the ten we rescued on September 14th. Each of these magnificent creatures was confiscated from poachers, and though their fins bore injuries, our dedicated veterinary team worked tirelessly to treat them. By September 20th, five turtles had already been returned to the ocean, with another four following on September 25th. Yesterday marked the release of the last one, fully rehabilitated and ready to return home. We’re incredibly grateful to the FUERZA PÚBLICA DE COSTA RICA (GAO from Limon), #SINAC, #OIJcostarica, and Turtle Rescue Cahuita for their partnership and support. It’s thanks to such collaborations that these releases are possible. 🌊 #Conservation #WildlifeRescue #SustainableFuture

  • Rescues can be emotional moments for our Team, A few days ago, our team faced an incredibly emotional day, rescuing three baby sloths and one mother sloth. Our first rescue involved a mom and her baby who had suffered an electrocution incident. The mother has burns on her hands and feet and is quite weak, but she’s showing signs of recovery. Thankfully, her baby is stable. We also responded to a call about a newborn sloth, still with his umbilical cord attached, likely after a fall from his mother. He is now in the nursery at the JRC. Our final rescue was particularly difficult—a baby sloth found beside his deceased mother, who had fallen from a tree and succumbed to her injuries. Despite our best efforts, the baby was too weak to survive. These moments highlight the dangers sloths face every day and the emotional toll it takes on our team. Seeing animals suffer is never easy, and we lean on each other for support, acknowledging that it’s okay not to be okay in these moments. Through our #ShockFreeZone program, we strive to reduce such tragic occurrences. Let’s continue to raise awareness and make a difference for these remarkable creatures.   Find out how you can help, reach out to a team member ! • We told you about the intense day we had three weeks ago? We wanted to give you an update on one of the babies that was admitted that day. Its name is Kumo. This is a Glimpse into his journey of Rehabilitation, Rewilding, and eventual Release... So it's been nearly a month since we rescued Kumo, he is a baby spider monkey, and at less than two months old, he’s just beginning to explore his new world. 💡 What does a day look like for a young primate in rehabilitation? For Kumo, it's a cycle of napping, feeding, and occasionally letting out a few cries—He also shares socializing moments with Moyo and Togo, two other little ones under three months old. While Kumo is still on a liquid diet, we’re starting to see him develop his personality and awareness—he's already showing preferences, especially when it comes to blanket changes! 😍 Why does all of this matter? Kumo’s story is part of a larger effort at the Jaguar Rescue Center to rescue, rehabilitate, and rewild vulnerable wildlife. Every milestone he reaches brings us closer to achieving our mission: returning him, and others like him, to their natural habitats. 💫 As we look ahead, key partnerships and supporters can help us continue providing the critical care these animals need at every stage of their rehabilitation. Together, we can make a tangible difference in wildlife conservation. If you're interested in supporting or learning more about how you or your organization can contribute to these efforts, let’s connect! Stay tuned for more updates. #wildlife #costarica #JRC #Rescue #rewild #release #conservation
