📣 The WECONA Journey: Transforming South Africa's Economic Landscape for Women 🚀 Since its launch by President Cyril Ramaphosa in October 2021, guided by the National Strategic Plan on Gender-Based Violence and Femicide, WECONA has been driving change by uniting public and private leaders to support women-owned businesses. With a target of 40% procurement from women-owned businesses, we're setting new standards in gender-responsive supply chains and funding. But the journey doesn’t stop here! As we gear up for WECONA '24, we’re committed to localizing gender transformation across industries, creating real opportunities for women entrepreneurs nationwide 🌍 🏆Engaging industry leaders to set transformative gender targets, 🏆Launching innovative initiatives like the Presidential Index for Inclusive Supply Chains (PIISC), and Championing gender-responsive funding and accountability across industries. Join us as we continue this powerful journey towards economic equality and empowerment for women in South Africa. Together, we’re not just shaping industries—we’re reshaping the future. 👜🙌🏽 #WECONA #WomenInBusiness #EmpowerWomen #InclusiveEconomy #EconomicEquality #GenderTransformation #WECONAJourney #40Percent
About us
The National Strategic Plan on Gender-Based Violence and Femicide, through Pillar 5, seeks to utilise public and private sector procurement as a tool and a springboard to facilitate the participation of women in the economy; promote their independence, and minimise their vulnerability to abuse. Pillar 5 also seeks to mobilise the private sector to partner with government in enabling Women-Owned Enterprises (WOEs) to participate in procurement opportunities within industry supply chains. The Women's Economic Assembly for women is a national initiative that draws companies, departments, organisations and individuals to connect and inspire innovation, thought leadership and actions to transform value chain eco-systems and create clear pathways for women-owned businesses to participate. This initiative aims to build a long term framework where economic opportunities for women, nationally and across the continent are expanded and leveraged, and practical actions take to fast-track womens' participation in supply chain eco-systems within specific industries. #wecona #WomensEconomic Assembly

Taking a moment to walk down memory lane, reflecting on the transformative journeys of WECONA 2021 and 2022, where bold steps were taken towards empowering women in South Africa’s economy. Launched by President Cyril Ramaphosa, WECONA set out to activate public and private sector supply chains for women-owned businesses, advancing a collaborative and coherent approach to women’s economic empowerment. Since then, WECONA has become a catalyst, creating pathways for women to lead in industry supply chains, making history with each step. In 2021, we set the vision in motion. In 2022, we accelerated with action and stronger partnerships. Both years were marked by powerful conversations, industry commitments, and game-changing milestones. These foundational years inspire us as we look forward to WECONA 2024—where we’ll continue to build, empower, and localize opportunities for gender transformation. Together, we are reshaping the economic landscape for South African women. #WECONA #WomensEconomicEmpowerment #WECONAWalkingDownMemoryLane
