On the 26th September 2024, as part of its 20th Anniversary celebrations, Ukwazi hosted former Springbok, Victor Matfield and former Springbok Coach, Jake White, to discuss the art and science of coaching. Both Victor and Jakes spoke passionately about the importance of building a cohesive team; teams with a strong identity and values. Teams that have a vision and a plan. Both speakers were clear that talent alone was not enough to succeed - leadership on and off the field ensures that teams gel and deliver. #WeDoMining #SuperTeams #IndustryLeadership

On 26 September 2024 and as part of Ukwazi’s 20th Anniversary celebration, we hosted former Springbok, Victor Matfield and former Springbok coach and current Vodacom Blue Bulls coach, Jake White at the Inanda Club in Sandton, Johannesburg: to share their thoughts and experiences about leadership, teams, innovation, and the importance of culture with our clients, employees, and partners in the industry. Victor Matfield talked about the importance of having a vision and setting aspirational goals. He stressed the importance of getting the team behind the plan and vision and doing the basics right in order to excel. For him this is essentially this is what Rassie Erasmus has done with the current Springboks. Jake White talked about his experience as a coach over 30 years in Australia, France, Japan, and South Africa. Reflecting on his personal journey, he stressed the importance of a coaching style that tuned into an existing culture or focused on creating a new culture and team at a particular point in time and in a particular country or club, before setting metrics for team performance and innovation. Building teams that have the right work ethic and discipline are what makes them fit for purpose. For Jake White – history counts and so does learning from it, even if we do not. Both talks resonated deeply with our clients, employees, and partners. and as we look forward to building service and technical excellence through our senior leadership, teams, and culture. #WeDoMining #SuperTeams #IndustryLeadership

We’re proud to be one of the sponsors of the Africa Mining Summit in Gaborone, Botswana, where some of the industry's most thought-provoking discussions are taking place. One of the highlights was a compelling debate on Africa’s energy future - balancing the continent's coal endowment with the push for clean, affordable and accessible sustainable energy⚡🌱. The conversation explored the complex socio-political dynamics at play, emphasising that Africa's path forward isn’t a simple choice between coal or renewables. Instead, a customised energy mix per country - leveraging both clean coal technologies and renewable energy - is key to fostering inclusive economic growth and development. 👉 Join the conversation here: https://bit.ly/3XXjoSD #WeDoMining #AfricaMiningSummit2024 #RenewableEnergy

The mining industry is evolving rapidly, with innovative methods reshaping conventional practices. In the latest edition of the SAIMM's journal, Ukwazi MD, Jaco Lotheringen, delves into the rising trend of using articulated dump truck (ADT) pulled scrapers in mining operations. This shift is currently being driven by the enhanced availability of heavy-duty, mining-grade equipment and the growing need for cost-effective, sustainable solutions. He also touches on Ukwazi's strategic partnership with K-Tec Earthmovers, which is to set to revolutionise the mining landscape in sub-Saharan Africa. This collaboration introduces ADT pull scraper applications designed to reduce costs and enhance efficiency in dry mining, offering a viable alternative to challenging wet mining methods. Head to the July 2024 edition, which also celebrates the SAIMM - The Southern African Institute of Mining and Metallurgy's 130th anniversary, for more: https://bit.ly/4fJDxT3 #WeDoMining #MiningIndustry #MiningTrends

Day 2 of the Junior Mining Indaba Fascinating presentations by Hugo Pienaar, Chief Economist, Minerals Council South Africa and VP for Mines & Metals, Wood Mackenzie, Robin Griffin on the global and local commodity outlook. Griffin argues that battery metal prices are influenced by Chinese demand, supply constraints in bringing new mines online and having sufficient processing/refinery capacity in the short to medium term. The key metal to watch is copper, and the impact of the energy transition is expected to be softer than anticipated. In addition, there is a substantial shortfall in capital investment needed for new mines to meet net zero targets, amounting to approximately USD $1.2 trillion. Pienaar states that the election results have already been factored into Rand scenarios. The economies to watch, which are most likely to impact the demand for South African commodities, are India and Indonesia, expected to grow by 5.5%-6.5% between 2024 and 2029. #WeAreMining #JuniorIndaba #MiningIndustry

As part of our 20th-year anniversary celebrations, we are proud sponsors of the Junior Mining Indaba, currently being held in Johannesburg, South Africa. Today 70% of delegates indicated that regulatory certainty is key to advancing exploration and mining. The Department of Mineral Resources and Energy has reported significant progress in processing prospecting and mining license applications, with approximately 2,800 applications completed. However, a backlog persists and requires further auditing to accurately quantify its extent. We are looking forward to the discussion today on funding and successful junior miner projects. Tomorrow the Vice President of Metals and Mining Research at Wood Mackenzie, Robin Griffin, will present on the global commodity outlook. #WeDoMining #MiningIndustry #JuniorIndaba
