Connecting South Africans to a better life goes beyond connectivity, it’s about empowering communities to protect themselves and their loved ones 💙 From 1 December 2024, we’ve made all calls free on the Telkom network to the National Consumer Commission helpline 🆘 This means you can report incidents like fake or expired food in your community without worrying about call costs. Together, with vigilance and responsibility, we can build a safer, healthier South Africa 🇿🇦 Call the National Consumer Commission: 012 065 1940 📞 #TapIn2TelkomSummer #PossibleBeginsHere #PossibleBeginsWithTelkom

I'm glad to share some thoughts about Telkom’s role in supporting the important South African Social Cohesion Index (SASCI) research which was launched today at the Union Buildings. The research was done by the Inclusive Society Institute (ISI), in cooperation with Constructor University, which is based in Bremen, Germany. The ISI developed the South Africa Social Cohesion Index that measures the well-being of South African society on a year-to-year basis. The findings are fascinating and directly connect to Telkom’s purpose – to seamlessly connect customers to a better life, as the backbone of South Africa’s digital economy. Digital connections are increasingly at the heart of social cohesion. Here are some of the headline insights produced in the research: · Our overall national social cohesion score of 51.7 matches developed nations like Germany. · Social cohesion is actually stronger in rural South Africa than in our metropolitan areas. · Higher levels of language diversity correlate positively with social cohesion. · South Africans across all groups maintain a consistently high identification with our country. But there are some concerning insights too. There has been a steady decline in social cohesion in recent years, driven by low levels of interracial trust, high distrust of immigrants and persistent inequality. The study found that “perception of fairness” and “respect for social rules” are at worryingly low levels. Social cohesion is also perceived as lower among intense internet users, contradicting other research on this issue. That’s something to think about further. For me, this research validates why it is so important that corporate citizens like Telkom pursue strategies that enrich the society we serve. When we connect 70,024 township homes to fibre, as we have done, we're not just laying cable – we're building bridges. When our FutureMakers program touches 221,308 lives through enterprise development, we're strengthening the economic bonds that support social cohesion. Our R210 million investment through the Telkom Foundation in digital literacy isn't just about skills – it's about enabling shared digital spaces where South Africans can connect, learn, and grow together. Telkom’s work is not just about providing connectivity; it's about fostering meaningful connections that strengthen our social fabric. Thoughts? How do you see the role of digital connectivity in building social cohesion? #TelkomSA #SocialCohesion #DigitalInclusion #Leadership #SouthAfrica #Innovation Read more below:
