At our recent Together Investing in Tomorrow’s Talent dialogue, business leader and University of the Free State Chancellor, Prof. Bonang Mohale, delivered a powerful provocation on the urgent need for action to address South Africa’s skills gap, student funding crisis, and our staggering youth unemployment rate. He called on the business community to take an active role by tackling the R16.5-billion in student debt that holds so many young South Africans back. Prof. Mohale urged us to act today to expand access to education in ways that truly empower young people to turn potential into shared prosperity, warning that the consequences of inaction are too dire to contemplate. In this interview, Prof. Mohale highlights the dialogue’s core message: that only through collaboration can we create the meaningful change our youth urgently needs. This video is the first in a series sharing insights from our dialogue participants, with more perspectives to come in the weeks ahead. #BuildingTomorrowTogether #CollaboratingForImpact #LeadershipInAction

Unlocking the potential of our nation's talent requires exploring new approaches to student funding. Thank you for your inspiring contribution to our dialogue Nicole Roos. Your reflections on the Nestlé Needs YOUth initiative and how it is helping to tackle youth unemployment and the skills gap highlighted the critical role the business community plays. 🌍 Last week's Leader Student Funding Dialogue got me reflecting on the incredible conversations shared with like-minded leaders. Hosted by @NetEd, with @Dr Retha Langa leading us through the theme "Accelerating Digital Innovation: A Roadmap for Africa’s Economic Growth," it was a powerful reminder of the critical work needed to address student funding and the skills gap in our country. As part of Nestlé, I was proud to contribute insights aligned with our commitment to youth empowerment and the Nestlé Needs YOUth (NNY) initiative. This program, focusing on Agripreneurship, Entrepreneurship, and Employability, is designed to equip young people with apprenticeships, traineeships, and job opportunities, offering meaningful pathways to success. We believe that empowering youth is key to solving the unemployment crisis and driving long-term economic growth in South Africa. Our recognition programmes are part of a broader strategy to foster equal opportunities and a positive work environment, ensuring every employee can thrive and grow. Through innovation, investment, and collaboration with public and private sectors, including partnerships like the Global Alliance for YOUth, Nestlé is working tirelessly to create more opportunities for young people. This dialogue reaffirmed that the private sector plays a vital role in addressing unemployment challenges ✨ #WeAreNestle #GoodLife #GoodBusiness #NestleNeedsYOUth Portia Thokoane Conny Sethaelo Mota Mota

Thank you to Nicole Roos and Nestlé for being an integral part of our Together Investing in Tomorrow’s Talent dialogue. Today we participated in an important Business Leader Dialogue focusing on student funding and the critical skills gap #SouthAfrica faces. Our Managing Director Nicole Roos, shared some wisdom based on her own experience: The first thing I would say to young professionals is to embrace adaptability and continuous learning. The world is changing rapidly—whether it's through technological advancements, shifts in consumer behaviour, or new challenges like climate change. Being flexible and willing to learn new skills is crucial to success, no matter which industry you choose. In agriculture ☘ there's a growing need for innovation. The sector is not just about traditional farming anymore; it's evolving with technologies like precision farming, regenerative agriculture, and sustainable practices. Networking is also key. Surround yourself with people who inspire you and seek out mentors who can guide you through your career. In my experience, having mentors and a strong professional network has been invaluable in navigating challenges and seizing new opportunities 👩💼 Finally, I would encourage young professionals to think long-term and focus on sustainability in their work. Whether you’re working in agriculture, marketing, or any other field, thinking about how your work impacts the environment and society is critical. The future belongs to those who can balance profit with purpose, and that’s where true innovation lies. Conny Sethaelo Mamokhele Sebatane Mota Mota #GoodLife #GoodBusiness #WeAreNestlé
